Well, "To Serve All My Days" and "World Enough And Time" are definitely part of my personal continuity. They really do feel like original series episodes in many ways.
Many of the other fan series are generally too fan-pleasing for my tastes.
In my humble opinion, Exeter is the truest to the feel of the original series of all of them. It is a lot of fun to watch, but all of the mentioned fan films could benefit from a little stronger acting. But they have accomplished a lot of good stuff that I wish I could do.
I've tried, several times, really hard, to watch and enjoy these. But, even with the larger talent coming along, they're godawful in terms of technical and acting quality.

To answer the question, yeah, they're true to the original. These guys get it, in a way that Bermaga never did.

New Voyages has really gotten it the last couple of episodes. They were more fanboyish the first couple of eps and probably not near as good. Exeter is good but needs to release more than one part of an episode every 5 years. Farragut is bad in acting but the stories aren't actually that bad. so far.
It depends on the fan film. I have worked with the Exeter guys and I know that Jimm Johnson will often argue that they wouldn't or couldn't have done this or that on TOS...especially since his goal was always to make a show that looks like it was made in 1969.
As to the writing, generally most of them aren't true to TOS, because while they might slavishly adhere to continuity and minutia, typically they entirely miss the writing style of TOS, which was fairly fast paced and spare.

I felt the same way watching the first few New Voyages, which I enjoyed enough to keep watching the series. But Cawley's performance in World Enough and Time had me completely immersed. In that show he was Kirk. I was surprised and impressed.
I agree.Hopefully they will keep raising the bar on the next episodes.And those bridge sets.....They have them right down to a T.

I agree it was his best performance. My wife even enjoyed the episode very much (she being much harder to impress than me), but she still doesn't like him as Kirk.

Of all the TOS-based films, my genuine opinion is that Starship Exeter has most successfully recreated the same glee I felt as a child watching the original Star Trek.

Starship Exeter, IMHO, nailed it. When I saw "The Savage Empire" the first time I was just in shock. I called my brother, a big fan as well, and told him I had just seen what I felt was the emotional equivalent of te 80th episode of TOS. "The Tressaurian Intersection" is coming along great-I just want to see more of it.
The New Voyages folks are doing a fine job as well, and doing a better job with each passing show. Despite all of their celebrity actors and writers they cannot turn out episodes that are as fun to watch as what the Exeter folks have done.
I did like the Farragut eps just for the effort they put in-you really gotta give it to these folks for working hard to make these.
Don't forget "Aurora" which is a TOS based series that is also EXTREMELY well done, and really gets points for being creative and not going down the beaten path.

Same here - I was giddy, as someone uptopic said. That's why I got in touch with Jimm Johnson when he announced at their site that they were considering making more of them.
I downloaded the podcast version of "The Tressaurian Intersection" to my ipod, but it wouldn't take "The Savage Empire" podcast for some reason.
Is there somewhere else I can download "The Savage Empire"?
I'd rathar watch it on my ipod than be trapped at the computer watching it.
I've seen all the New Voyages / Phase II Episodes and dug them. I was aware of Exeter, but haven't checked them out yet.

No, it just means I've been asked to review numerous versions of the acts as they are edited and give my input. I've seen several versions of Act Four over the ages.
Well, I'm biased of course - but, living in Australia, my friends and ST contacts expect to see the captain get his shirt ripped, do a flying karate kick, see alien planets with wedge shaped doors - but they just do not expect me to suddenly pop up on the viewscreen in the tag - so I see ST fans go into that same "in shock" mode quite regularly.
Even more so, I live with Senator Therin's curtains, set dressings and props in the background, right here, every day, as I play on the 'Net. So, yeah - it's true to the original, and ever-present.
