TOS Fan Films.True to original?

The sets are impeccable. The costumes are often outstanding. I like the slightly different "skant" uniform worn by Engineer Smithfield on FARRAGUT. Nice touch.

The story quality on FARRAGUT and EXETER seems to be improving, but still has a ways to go. Other areas for improvement: somehow, it doesn't quite feel like an authentic TOS-era adventure without at least a little bit of '60's style soundtrack (not easy for a small-time production to emulate) and hairstyles that are more vividly '60's. C'mon, admit it: it would be neat to see Lt. Moretti with Uhura's Diana Ross & the Supremes-style 'dos.

"Starship Exeter: The Savage Empire" samples actual TOS music and the sequel has an all-new music track that sounds like it was composed for TOS!

I actually liked it better when they used the original TOS music, but I recognize that this creates problems as they have to make the scene fit the music. The music in TTI was good, tho.

One creative angle that I hope improves with these pseudo-treks as they continue to grow:

I hope we see less battles with Klingons and other hostile aliens, and more exploring and taking risks in the harshness of frontier space.

You know, with exception to New Voyages/Phase II, I never look at a fan film (TOS or other) as whether or not if it's true to the source material. Just tell a a good story. At least that's what I'm trying to do with the project I'm working on.
