Just shy of six years since Troublesome Minds, author David Galanter returns with his second solo novel Crisis of Consciousness (after more than 20 years of writing for the franchise). Street date: April 28th.

Blurb time:

The crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise is completing a diplomatic mission with the Maabas, an alien race with whom they’d been sent to sign a treaty. The Maabas are a peaceful people who are not native to the star system they now inhabit, but were refugees from a great war long ago. Several hundred thousand took shelter on their new planet, and have been there for thousands of years. While they have warp capability, they do not travel the stars, but seek to explore within. The Federation’s interest is in the Maabas’s great intellectual resources. Their science, while behind Federation standards in some areas, excels in others. They are highly intelligent, with unique approaches, and their philosophy is in line with that of the Federation. But just as the pact is signed, the Enterprise is attacked by an unknown ship. They manage to show enough force to keep the alien vessel at bay…but a new danger arises, as their mysterious foes are the Kenisians—a race that used to inhabit this planet thousands of years ago, and now want it back.

Re: TOS: Crisis of Consciousnes by D. Galanter Review Thread (Spoilers

I ordered mine and waiting for its delivery...

Re: TOS: Crisis of Consciousnes by D. Galanter Review Thread (Spoilers

Yeah, I'll be checking a couple of the local bookstores this week on the off-chance it happens to go out ahead of street date (which tends to happen pretty frequently).

Re: TOS: Crisis of Consciousnes by D. Galanter Review Thread (Spoilers

Not to be nitpicky, but there is a s missing at the end of the novel's title in the thread title.

Re: TOS: Crisis of Consciousnes by D. Galanter Review Thread (Spoilers

I saw this thread and thought "Wait, I don't even have MY copies yet. Can it be out?" :-) Y'all scared me.

For those wondering, the blurb is the setup but doesn't speak to the meat of the novel, which is again a Spock-centric story. In fact, it rather dovetails somewhat (not directly) with "Troublesome Minds."

(And yes, Defcon is right... it's "Consciousness" not "Consciousnes" ;-) )

I am curious why you do not have any copies, yet?

Ronald Held;10992907 I am curious why you do not have any copies said:
I am guessing they've not been sent out yet. I mean, I've read the galley pages and such, so seen it electronically. :-) But I've not gotten the box from Pocket with my copies yet. It's still 8 days from publication, so I expect it this week.

Sorry for the thread title typo, I'll contact the mods.

^ Thanks!

Re: TOS: Crisis of Consciousness by D. Galanter Review Thread (Spoiler

Looks like Amazon has the first chapter available for reading:

http://www.amazon.com/Crisis-Consciousness-Star-Trek-Original/dp/1476782601

I hope it encourages you to buy the book and let me know what you think. If I had to sum up what I think might interest people about this book, it's somewhat Spock thinking "what would Kirk do?" and Kirk thinking "what would Spock do?" in their respective situations. ;-)

Thanks for the link, Dave -- big fan of Troublesome Minds, and very much looking forward to picking up this one, as well. :techman:

Re: TOS: Crisis of Consciousness by D. Galanter Review Thread (Spoiler

Knowing Amazon's history with Trek novel releases, it'll be waiting for me on my doorstep this Tuesday after work.

The wait will soon be over.

Re: TOS: Crisis of Consciousness by D. Galanter Review Thread (Spoiler

I got mine yesterday, and I like it so far.
I don't want to give away any details, so suffice it to say that I am just after where the Maabas counsel of 17 has decided to put their faith onto Captain Kirk in dealing with the situation.

Re: TOS: Crisis of Consciousness by D. Galanter Review Thread (Spoiler

Snagged it on the way home from work today. Will be starting it in a couple hours, very likely.

Re: TOS: Crisis of Consciousness by D. Galanter Review Thread (Spoiler

Not even shipped yet. If it does not ship by the weekend, I may try and hunt one down.
