Am I the only one who realized that when janeway did a manual launch of the forward photon torpedo launchers, she had to be standing INSIDE the tubes, and had exposure to actual photon torpedo exhaust? And a dose of radiation that required instant, highly specialized medical attention?

think about it, if the only way to do a manual torpedo launch will irradiate you like spock in TWOK, then I don't think anyone will apply for the job.

Considering the fact that it is specifically mentioned in the episode (Harry says, "...You'd have to launch from inside the tube."), I would say no. You are not the only one who realized.

But am I the only one who stopped to think about how god damn stupid the design was? You know, to make it so that if the computer failed, and you needed to launch a torpedo. That you would have to kill one of your crew every launch?
