"Torment of Destiny" Star Trek New Voyages

GSchnitzer

Co-Executive Producer
In Memoriam
Some early pictures are coming in from our episode "Torment of Destiny" that we shot earlier this month. How are they looking?

McCoy gets zapped in the Yonada Oracle Room as actor Richard Hatch looks on:

''For the world is hollow...'' has never been one of my favorite episodes, but I still look forward to seeing more of Dr McCoy, who I feel has never been given as much of a spotlight he should have before in both Phase 2 and STC.

I like the actress chosen for Natira, in fact if I can be a basic caveman, she might even be prettier than Kate Woodville...

Finally, before Phase 2 webisodes were meant to take place as a transition between season 3 and TMP, which is why Charles Root had Scotty's hair and mustache from TMP, but now that you seem to have rebooted, shouldn't he get rid of the 'stache and slick back his hair like Doohan did?

Looking forward to it. I don't always like sequels but this is one episode where it makes total sense, since they were supposed to hook up with the Yonada a year later.

Well, all we know is that Doohan didn't have the 'stache in "Turnabout Intruder" but did have it it TMP. I don't know if there's any way of knowing if Scotty started growing it the day after the Janice Lester events or a couple of years later--the day before the V'ger events.

For what it's worth, Scotty only had the slicked back hairstyle for the first eight episodes of the third season--finally getting his good old hairstyle back in "The Tholian Web." Of course, the events of "Torment..." obviously take place after "...World is Hollow...," so it wouldn't make sense to make Scotty's hair in his pre-"...Hollow..." style. I'm actually more concerned that Scott had the rank of Commander instead of Lieutenant Commander, but I sometimes get lost in those details.

Yes, Becky is pretty. She was great in "Mind-Sifter," so we decided to use her again as Natira. I'm not sure how I feel about us becoming a resident acting troup--just using the same people as guest actors assuming different roles. But it's working for now.

It all looks great, Greg! Poor Jeff Bond...

Our post team is great. I wanted to shoot Jeff full of 50,000 volts. The post-production team suggested that we could do the effect in post far more safely. It was a solution I hadn't considered.

New Chekov? What happened to Jonathan Zungre?

Yes--Brian Tubbs now dons Chekov's wig. ("Chekov's Wig" is the name of my new rock band, BTW.)

Zungre is now married and has bigger fish to fry.

For those keeping score at home: that's 2 Kirks, 3 Spocks, 3 McCoys, 2 Scottys, 3 Sulus, 3 Uhuras, and 3 Chekovs.

Your Scotty looks more like "Welshy" with a mustache than the TOS Scotty.

Yes, he looks more like "Welshy but with a moustache" than he does the "TOS Scotty." But I think he looks more like the "TOS Scotty but with a moustache" or the "TMP Scotty" than even a "Welshy with a moustache"--if you are following the thinking.

I still regret that Phase 2 has backed off the "transition" thing. It was a really cool idea, and would also have served to distinguish P2 more from...other fan productions...who might also be covering the post-season three TOS era. Just my two cents, obviously, and no weight need be given to my thoughts. Keep up all the great work!

We'll still see the Phase II enterprise in The Holiest Thing and Torment of Destiny. I still think they should reconsider their decision to "reboot" the series. There is already so much confusion about what exactly Phase II, New Voyages, New Phase Voyages, or whatever, is supposed to be. Taking previous episodes out of the equation entirely is only going to add to this confusion.

Set a roadmap and stick to it. Set communication guidelines for social media and show some transparency. Give fans a reason to have confidence in you again.

Honestly, most viewers probably don't care about the name or whether or not it's Phase II or some other name. They just want to see a good story.

That's where I am. I liked Mind-Sifter, so I want to see the next episode.
