Re: Torchwood: Miracle Day 4x04 - 'Escape To LA' (Grade/Discuss) SPOIL

I haven't even watched the episode yet. I largely watched TW out of a sense of "obligation" since it's a DW spin-off. Like most, I found S2 better than S1 and Children of the Earth to be pretty damned good but Miracle Day just isn't doing it for me. Really, I'm content just to skim the threads and read a synopsis in an episode guide.

Re: Torchwood: Miracle Day 4x04 - 'Escape To LA' (Grade/Discuss) SPOIL

Good, but the Rhys scenes are pace-killing, cos he's crap.

Re: Torchwood: Miracle Day 4x04 - 'Escape To LA' (Grade/Discuss) SPOIL

The villains of this are too mua-ha-ha-ha bad guys, what with the ranting and the mysterious symbols. I preferred Children of Earth, where even the (human) villains were people trying to make the best of an awful situation.

I think that's a blind though - the mwahahaha bad guys, cos we still don't know who or what is actually behind this, but it's not just going to be some pharma corporate types.

I'm thinking the micro-world has got a grip on the macro-world a bit earlier than The Invisible Enemy would suggest.

I wonder if any giant prawns will appear by episode 10?

That triangle. Anyone else getting an eighties chikdren's BBC drama vibe?

And at the car crush. Edgars industries? Very B5.

Re: Torchwood: Miracle Day 4x04 - 'Escape To LA' (Grade/Discuss) SPOIL

It has an intriguing element by hinting at a past connection with Jack and the families. However, the episode again seems oddly paced and we still seem to be spinning wheels to discover what the threat is. Whilst good mystery can be good there has to be something to maintain it and make it a little more interesting.

The Off-load areas seem like they are going to be a big bad thing and this could begin to up the stakes in the story and looking at the next week clips it seems that Gwen returns to Wales and the offload areas DO indeed mean something bad. But what? Let's hope it makes it worth it to up the pace and ante.

It's good but not stellar. I missed the first 25mins but didn't feel as though I'd missed anything or that I wanted to go back to BBCiplayer to catch it up. With Children of Earth though you did. But then it didn't have to drag out the mystery so much so that element was suspenseful and intriguing to hook the viewer. This time round it is taking four episodes and still no real answers or pointers.

there is something to do I cant quite put my finger on it however. That said when the car was being crushed, I was for some reason thinking it was K.A.R.R. from Knighrider behind it all, cars being responbile for the miracle, which is silly.

Talking of that car crush, even for a memeber of the Tea Party, that fate seems cruel. Before I move away from polotics, how liberal is this show, evil Tea Party folk, evil drug companys, Captain Jack turning everyone gay (according to Rex), private sector investment (or out-sourcing) in the NHS being a bad thing.

All this talk of "The Familys" put me in mind of the Silent, but that seems unlikely.

Rex shooting the guy just before he said something useful, yeah thanks for that cliche Rex.

The over flow camps, wow what an awful race we are. Gwens video in the next episode preview, disguist in humanity, very similar to the one she did in Children of Earth.

The fire damaged serve didnt seem right to me, unless Gwen was going to set an actual fire to cover her tracks, that or I dont know about servers, do they sometimes just catch fire from over heating?

Reminded me of The Undiscovered Country. "He was just about to explain the whole thing!"

Re: Torchwood: Miracle Day 4x04 - 'Escape To LA' (Grade/Discuss) SPOIL

Sorry if anyone mentioned this, but Dish's guide for this one had episode "6" and the entry for the next one has "4".

Is there a time-warp I don't know about?

Re: Torchwood: Miracle Day 4x04 - 'Escape To LA' (Grade/Discuss) SPOIL

Sad that the most exiting thing to happen in this episode was a man running up some stairs.

I didn't like the re-use of the video piece by Gwen in the trailer.

She was all like - hey mind when Torchwood was good last series, I'll do a bit from it to make you think this years good too.

This episode leaves me with many questions.

Why were they watching Esthers family and not Rex's?

How did she ever get a job at the CIA?

How after thousands of years has Jack not yet to check the room is clear before letting down his guard?

Why does the story only get progressed 5 minutes an episode?

Hopefully things pick up next week. Only 3 weeks till Doctor Who comes back at least.

Why were they watching Esthers family and not Rex's?

Esther's sister lives in the Washington area and the two have regular interaction with each other. Therefore, it's more likely they'll get a lead watching her house as opposed to Rex's father who lives in LA and hasn't seen Rex in years.

Their wrong, this was clearly the 4th episode and tonight is the 5th.

Re: Torchwood: Miracle Day 4x04 - 'Escape To LA' (Grade/Discuss) SPOIL

This series is 10 episodes I didn't realise it already feels stretched. What struck me was a minor point where we see the busy Dr wearing heels. Then later Gwen talks about how bad heels are for working women.

Of course, the big bad guys have their headquarters in the same LA area as Rex's father... and they don't think, "maybe Rex will come after us... well, we could send ONE guy to watch his father..." But then maybe the big bad guys are dumb.

But my real problem with the Rex/Father scene was just the contrivance of it.

And come on, Rex, you're in the CIA and you're on a mission and you go to your father's apartment? How did you know he'd have drugs? Because that's why you went there... right? Not like there's not a MILLION convenience stores...

It smacks of bad plotting: see! Rex has an estranged father! See where Rex came from!

Pah.

Well, this episode only seemed to imply that it was special ops psycho who was keeping an eye on Esther's sister's place. Since that led him to tracking Jack and Gwen down than he wouldn't really have a need to bother with Rex's dad.

If it's true that only Special Guest Star C. Thomas Howell was the only one watching, it means the CIA are idiots too.

Can you tell I'm a little disappointed with the series so far?

I haven't noticed  Perhaps you could articulate your disappointment

Seriously though, I'm enjoying it, and don't feel they are stretching. Children of Earth was Awesome, but, it was pretty "Whiz-Bang" and tough to savor, IMHO.

I don't think they're fighting the CIA anymore, not since they disposed of Newman. The assassin in this episode seemed to be an independent agent hired by the Triangle.

Pah.

Everyones acting dumb to streetch the storey. He came across a whole warehouse of drugs a couple of episodes back.
I'm glad the guy didnt get to give them a name they only would have googled it.
