Can't wait.

pssst...Jack's deceased boyfriend's name is Ianto, not Yanto

Re: Torchwood: Miracle Day 4x04 - 'Escape To LA' (Grade/Discuss) SPOIL

Yeah a couple typos , I have 'the' instead of 'They killed Suzie again'. Not sure why users cant edit posts? Oh well, no biggie. And I don't care what anyone says, this is the 4th season of Torchwood not the first, just because it's on Starz does not mean that has changed.

Re: Torchwood: Miracle Day 4x04 - 'Escape To LA' (Grade/Discuss) SPOIL

Your poll is similar to something I had thought about going with the deceased Ianto, Owen, Tosh, Susie, Cyberwoman. :)

That episode seemed to be getting on track and getting to business with some increased nastiness and more Torchwood actually doing stuff. Hopefully the goofy start didn't turn off the potential audience.

I think the Miracle Day panic timing seems a bit off but then again such a traumatic happening might do that. It just feels like it's only been days and you already have people ready to chuck off their needy relations.

I guess Mare Winningham only warrants a little role these days but it was fun to see B-movie veteran C. Thomas Howell hamming it up outside of Syfy Asylum flicks.

The Families?

Re: Torchwood: Miracle Day 4x04 - 'Escape To LA' (Grade/Discuss) SPOIL

Jilly is too red.

Over doing it.

I'm thinking that there's a shimmer warping her real reddy appearance to seem human more so than intense camouflage.

Kai better have something to do next week because he's seeming completely superfluous, there's been little to no bloody reason to see his side oft he phone calls to Gwen, not that the idea that they could communicate with out being intercepted is just farcical.

Re: Torchwood: Miracle Day 4x04 - 'Escape To LA' (Grade/Discuss) SPOIL

I gave it an average... just. It was slightly better than last week. The thing that saved it was the almost reveal that it's someone from Jack's past. I'm really hoping it's not just some made up thing from his past but something from Torchwood or Who.

Re: Torchwood: Miracle Day 4x04 - 'Escape To LA' (Grade/Discuss) SPOIL

^

Isn't everything from Torchwood or Doctor Who made up?

;) :D

I'd rather see new stuff that fits with continuity more than just some unknown effect from continuity.

Watchin' the episode now...and the "Dead is Dead" campaign sounds oddly racist to me.

Re: Torchwood: Miracle Day 4x04 - 'Escape To LA' (Grade/Discuss) SPOIL

Plus: Oswald Danes is now much more convincing as a spokesperson for the miracle.
Minus: Yet another retcon. Why does it always have to do with Jack's past?

Phi is the 21st letter of the Greek alphabet and if the mathematical symbol for the golden ratio and a dozen other aspects of math including normal distribution of probability.

Rex shot that spook in the throat.

That's not an accident, that makes him a double agent.

i saw Owen on the new spy/topical/political drama "The Hour" last week, so it's improbable that he's going to make a...

You know that the Emperor Dalek is still out there past Pluto waiting to be whacked by 9 Rose and Jack?

I wonder how the Emperor has dealt with all the Dalek invasions of late?

Why is he hiding from them?

(As an older inferior model, they wouldn't tolerate him?)

Because this "Always been here" shite sounds an awful lot like that prattling on the girl in the machine with the snowwhite dreads did.

Dead is dead is succinctly racist odO ital. Especially as they followed on by glorifying "segregation". The term "deadist" was coined in Red Dwarf for people who treated holograms of expired human beings as second class citizens.

Minus: Yet another retcon. Why does it always have to do with Jack's past?

It's not a retcon if it relates to something we don't know about yet. A retcon would be, say, changing the circumstances of Jack coming to earth, or revealing that there is no such person as the Doctor. Or Gwen is Irish, not Welsh. That's a retcon.

I greatly enjoyed the episode. The show seems to be on an upward curve in terms of the quality of the episodes, and it's not afraid to take a few risks (the Tea Party reference and Palin-like character is gonna raise a few eyebrows). Gwen-watchers will be in heaven (expect lots of vidcapping of two scenes in particular). And I really like the Jilly character - they've added some depth to her that I didn't expect (although her about-face regarding her opinion of Oswald was a bit jarring - until we saw how she was able to turn it on and off at will).

Good stuff so far, although I really hope this "triangle" group doesn't end up being the Illuminati or something like that. That angle's been done to death.

The trailer for next week caught my eye, mainly due to deja vu. Didn't they do the "if anyone gets this message" shtick with Gwen in Children of Earth? Indeed, that was when the Doctor was directly referenced. So maybe next week will be "the moment" where the two shows will link.

Funny, I was in doubt over using the word retcon myself and I actually double checked on the definition of the word before using it in my post.

Wikipedia is most helpful here (link) in explaining there are different types of retcon. This episode uses the "Addition" type, and I quote "Some retcons do not directly contradict previously established facts, but "fill in" missing background details, usually to support current plot points.". Interestingly, the same article also mention that "Such additions and reinterpretations are very common in Doctor Who,[2] though they are not usually referred to as retcons by fans."

Re: Torchwood: Miracle Day 4x04 - 'Escape To LA' (Grade/Discuss) SPOIL

I'm thinking 2 things:

1.) When the guy refers to someone in Jack's past, its not the actual past, but Jack's own personal past timeline, i.e. it could be someone or something from that missing time that he was a Time Agent in the 51st century. I want to see something like that, come to light, so that missing time when he was a Time Agent might start to get explored, this could be a perfect way to explore that, something from his "personal past" but which is actually in our future.

2.) I also kind of got the vibe maybe the things that have always been there and whatnot, might be The Silence, it kinda seems like they might be able to do something like this on such a global scale since they've always been here, and no one can remember them.

Re: Torchwood: Miracle Day 4x04 - 'Escape To LA' (Grade/Discuss) SPOIL

I haven't been disappointed by an episode so far. The mention of "families" and a connection with Jack's past is fascinating. The feeling of escalation is just tremendous. I've had a sense of bigger impending things on the horizon after each episode.

Re: Torchwood: Miracle Day 4x04 - 'Escape To LA' (Grade/Discuss) SPOIL

Lets just assume that there were some really pissed off Sicilians who did not take favourably to Godfather 3.

It's taken the families 20 years, but the world is going to pay.

Re: Torchwood: Miracle Day 4x04 - 'Escape To LA' (Grade/Discuss) SPOIL

Still pretty good. The payoff, I think/hope, is going to be enormous.

I thought about Rex being a double when he shot that guy in the throat too.

TW and Who won't cross paths, of that I'm certain. For one thing, Who isn't on Starz. (and can you imagine if it was?! )

Wow, that 'Dead Is Dead' lady got one nasty end. She better hope death does return.

Re: Torchwood: Miracle Day 4x04 - 'Escape To LA' (Grade/Discuss) SPOIL

Loved it. Loved the Mare Winnigham cameo and her grisly fate, man that was cruel, eyeball still moving around to drive home the point. C. Thomas Howell was great too.

Really enjoyed the "Mission Impossible" scenes. Even Rex is now getting on my nerves less, not sure if he finally found the character, or they just toned down his "Angry Black Man just for the sake of being Angry" act. Poor Esther though, she didn't do anything wrong, Gwen's eyes weren't turned towards C. Thomas Howell's character so, there was nothing for her to miss.

Lots of stuff bubbling to the surface now, almost to the halfway point

TW and Who won't cross paths, of that I'm certain. [...]
Moffat confirmed as much during the recent TCA press tour. Specifically, he said that he'd bring Jack back to Who if he had the right story (and if schedules worked out, naturally), but the Doctor wouldn't appear on Torchwood because of the different sensibilities of the two shows.

Poor Esther though, she didn't do anything wrong [...]
No, she didn't do anything wrong... except lead the assassin directly to the team by visiting her sister. She may not have field training, but she knows that some hostile force is attempting to take them all out. Much as Rex commented, it was incredibly foolish and stupid to risk the team and mission as she did.

Ah, OK, didn't put that part together (Room full of people distracting me). I thought he was going off on her for being distracted, and then bitched at her for missing seeing something during his fight with her :alienblush:
