I could see Rex being dead. Gwen, maybe, but that'll require something to change. Shame with the baby.

I can definitely see something where the characters get hurt, but keep going. After all, there is no death at the moment. But, once they are faced with the opportunity of flipping the switch, it'll kill them all.

That being said, I don't see the point in reading too much into anything at the moment.

Gwen blew up an overflow camp.

Took her long enough to get around to doing SOMETHING. AND, it was pretty easy. Find the unguarded explosives...
I understand the point though, I tend to think that Gwen was distracted emotionally. These people or person responsible for this are targeting Torchwood specifically and trying to isolate Jack.

I guess so. But, then, they had a perfect time to get him. When he was interviewing Danes. OR when he was interviewing PhiCorp CEO. He's been alone for like two episodes.

I thought it has become obvious to everywhere. That is why it seems "nothing has been happening". This entire series is all about Jack and my prediction is that his past is gonna come bite him in the arse in a big way.

How many episodes ago did his past become a plot point? 2? And has been ignored for how many episodes? 2?

You would think Jack (at LEAST) would follow up on that little (major) tidbit of information. It's like he hadn't heard... or he doesn't care... or he doesn't believe, or that information, which we ALL KNOW IS IMPORTANT, is inconsequential.

I feel like, in terms of the writing, two things: 1. not enough story and 2. to many cooks in the kitchen and what narrative there is, isn't being picked up. You bring up a good point: Jack's PAST. Why isn't he looking INTO IT?

Sure. 1000 years. But, I think he could PROBABLY scratch off the first 500 or so years...

He's counting the thousand years he spent buried under Cardiff.

Long lived maybe, but before Rose, I doubt that he was immortal.

^ He wasn't immortal before Rose. That's kind of been established. Jack was probably in his late 30's early 40's when the Doctor and Rose first encountered him during the Blitz, maybe younger.

I had the feeling that he was older since he had access to futuristic medicine and time travel. That's one of the neat things about Captain Jack. He has this whole other life filled with amazing adventures and dancing we know little about.

^ Indeed and something he did in those amazing adventures pissed off someone or some people big time :) We know he was a con man extraordinaire until he bumped into the Doctor and Rose who changed him for the better.

I don't know if he was an extraordinary con man. Jack seemed to be barely getting by in "The Empty Child". Stuck on a primitive planet and latching on to the first seller who came along. Doesn't sound successful.

How long did he spend in that time bubble with Captain John?

Jack is from the 50th century, I'd suspect that anyone from that era either ages slower or differently than folks born 30 centuries earlier, or do you think that those hormones he's producing are the only modern miracle his body is capable of?

Then of course rejuvenation could be a process you do to yourself in the future, treatment, a pill or a booth, more so than automatic, like how what Doc Brown did with replacing his blood and what not during his trip to 2015, so once Jack was out of contact with Home, the Captain might have had to begin ageing "normally".

There is that missing time in his time during or after the Time Agency. He doesn't remember what happened to him, a gap in his memory, it's possible something during that period in his life is coming back to bite him in the butt now, which would be way cool, but I'm probably hoping too much for a connection like that.

^ That would be pretty sweet, and isn't too far fetched an idea. I really don't think that Jack is even aware of the magnitude of what is awaiting him and is going to be shocked when everything is revealed. Hopefully he is able to recover in time to actually do something about it.

Well, this was entertaining anyway. And it is nice that one of my nitpicks from last week (Esther and Rex using their real names in the Overflow Camp) is addressed here. Sort of. It's actually mentioned and shoved under the rug, but meh.

What I really liked about this episode was Jack's dinner with Ernie Hudson. I don't know why, can't quite put my finger on it, but something about that scene seemed really cool.

Interestingly enough, most of the episode actually focuses on Esther and Rex. While I have nothing against those characters, their storyline isn't really all that great. Mainly because dickless Maloney and crybaby Ralph are so annoying. Gwen at the Camp in Wales also seemed rather tedious. "Release my father." "No." "You're a bitch." "Your opinion is noted."

Still, the ending seems promising, anyway. Presumably Gwen's family has been kidnapped by the Mysterious Third party that C. Thomas Howell worked for a few weeks back. Who, I'm guessing, must have had dealing with Jack at some point in the past.

I enjoyed the banter between Jack and Ernie Hudson's character myself, although it seemed a bit too polished. I thought the Esther and Rex thing was good as well, although it stretched out a bit too long. The stuff with Gwen seems to be such a waste to me though, I don't understand why they bothered with that whole bit of it, doesn't seem to move the story along at all and just serves to keep her husband and family in the show IMO.

I have a feeling that Gwen's family wasn't actually kidnapped. The weak evidence was the whole song-and-dance with the courtesy phone and the lenses. If they actually had Rhys, they would've had Rhys's phone, and could've just answered when she called. That's not compelling, though, since they might've done the lens thing and PA announcement to be dramatic, and Gwen calling Rhys could've told them when to send out the PA announcement.

The thing that actually made me suspicious, though, is that they specifically mention that they have Rhys, the baby, and Gwen's mom, but don't say anything about her father. That seems like an odd omission, considering they'd probably know how much trouble she had to go through to get him, unless they had just disconnected Rhys's mobile and were bluffing about having kidnapped everyone. If they didn't really do it, they wouldn't have found Gwen's dad with Rhys, and would just assume that he was still in the Overflow Camp, as the records indicate.

yes I dont think Jacks physical apperance is a clue to his age when he meets Rose and theDoctor, who knows what benefits you get from being a Time Agent.

As for this episode, well im not relly surprised Phi Corp are middle men, but aside from that, god this episode was dull, seriously did Starz request that the show be so slowed paced?

The fact they want Jack, is well meaningless by itself, as the only mortal man in the world, they could well just want to find out why thats the case, however it seems likely they already knew he was immortal, given what was said about it being vast and well planned.

I've taken to following the show here rather than watch. There are too many characters like Dane that I don't have any feeling for but boredom. The pace is glacial, this show, up to episode 5 where I stopped, could have been condensed into 2 or 3 well paced episodes. I might catch the final one, but at this point the nearness of Doctor Who starting has put this way down on the watch list.

remind me never to tell a guy I like his vintage coat, ok fair enough I cant think of a time when I would, but still it appears to be code, for lets go fuck

^ I am getting pretty tired of all this gay stuff in these episodes though, its completely unnecessary.
