Part of me would love to see McGann get another bite of the cherry. Or even to see Eccleston, Tennant or Smith return somewhere down the line (like how they considered casting Patrick Troughton as the 7th Doctor for a while during the 1980s). But I think it would ultimately be a sign of defeat - they should always be going forwards, not back.
Would be interesting to see McGann try a totally different take on the role, but with as many fantastic (and probably more interested) actors as there are out there it seems unlikely.

A few years ago Mark Gatiss suggested that Peter Davison would make an interesting Doctor -- and one completely different than the fifth Doctor -- now.
I'd definitely say that I prefer Davison's audio work now over what he did on TV 30 years ago. (Like my old acting teacher used to tell me, all things being equal, an older actor is always going to be more interesting to watch than a younger actor.)
But if they had to bring back an old Doctor, I agree that it needs to be McGann. He was robbed on TV and it's long past time that they made it up to him. (At the very least, I think they need to bring him back for a flashback episode or 2 during the Capaldi years. They can have that be the Doctor-lite episode for the season. Seriously, we need more McGann! Moffat has no idea what kind of a Pandorica he opened up when he brought McGann back for "Night of the Doctor"!)
But I also agree that they'll probably never do that since it would be seen as a sign of defeat. Certainly not on a permanent basis. At most, I suppose they might do something where Capaldi (or whoever is the current Doctor at the time) takes a year off to do a film or something and they do a year of specials but have each special feature a different Doctor. (One for McGann, one for Tennant, one for Smith, one for Capaldi, and maybe a big Christmas special teaming up all 4.)

No point, if an actor wants time off he can have it, he just has to quit

I prefer to hope for Capaldi to stay for longer than any of the previous seven Doctors.
So far, although enjoying him, I'm not as keen on Capaldi as I was on Eccleston or Smith after their first season in the role. Perhaps this is because my expectations of him were too high; having said that, I wasn't dying about Tennant after his first season either but he did go on to become one of my favourites so I do expect Capaldi to continue to grow on me.
Even so, I'm a little frustrated by the tendency of actors to leave the role after no more than 3 - 4 years and would like to see someone stay on a little longer. As long as they don't outstay their welcome, I suppose.

I feel the same way, but I suspect this has more to do with the writing than it does Capaldi's acting. I found myself getting bored with most of the last season, and it had nothing to do with the performances of the cast.
Yep. It had it fun turns, but it was a letdown, overall.
It definitely had its moments but I didn't enjoy it half as much as Matt's first series. I'd Put it on par with Eccleston's year or Tennant's first series so I'm expecting to like the next series more. Capaldi is a good actor but I think it took him a while to get a handle on the role.
I've been watching Ecceleston's sole series with a newbie lately, and I must say... as fresh as it does feel, it still is the best frst series of any Doctor. Smith's first series had some bumps (the Silurian two-parter is a groan), but overall, its pretty good and fun overall. Tennant's first series was.. well, bumpy. But, it still had stone-cold classics, like the Sarah Jane episode, or Girl in the Fireplace.
Capaldi's series was promising, but Danny Pink, and the ludicrous finale just didn't work for me. Its a weak series.
