I agree with the list in the OP exactly.

I would add Kai Winn to that list too, though. 6-way tie for the best of the best IMO. All of them fascinatingly nuanced characters and immaculately played by master actors.

effing B*tch. She played that character SO WELL its unbelievable. YOu just hated her. She was down right evil. More evil than any of the real villains somehow.

probably my least favorite charactor.

Others on the least fav list are Kira and Nog. Just never liked them. NOg was annoying though he had his moments, and Kira was just too hard or something. I never really cared for her at all. Her only redeeming quality in my mind was through Odo towards the end. when she softened up.

When she was upset she was really annoying, and when she was happy...she was just too cheery

#1 has to be Garak. Andy Robinson did so much with a character that was already wonderfully written. It's almost a shame he wasn't made into a regular as planned in the final season, but we ended up seeing plenty of him, anyway.

The rest are harder to choose.

Gul Dukat was a great character through the episode Waltz, but after that he was a caricature of himself.

Damar was a character I really liked in the end, but it took him a while to become more than window dressing on the show.

Quark was usually great, although he was involved in the occasional bad Ferengi episode (of which most I liked, but there's little to be redeemed in Profit and Lace).

I think both Worf and O'Brien had great character arcs on Deep Space Nine, but since they were imported from The Next Generation, I don't know how you'd classify them.

Jeffery Combs is great in any role. I love the season where he played three characters.

what was his third char?

I know he was Wayoun and Brunt (right?) who else?
He always plays good charactors.

My top five - okay, six! - are basically tied for first, but if I had to rank them, they'd fall out this way:

1. Elim Garak - Second only to Spock as a great Star Trek character. He's the one guy I want to know more about in the post-TV saga.

2. Kira Nerys - The ever-popular "tough chick" archetype but given more pathos and complexity.

3. Gul Dukat - Trek's most complex and fascinating villain ever. I choose to ignore S7.

4. Weyoun - Who doesn't love that smarmy little bastard? An inspiration to Vortas everywhere.

5. Damar - Leave it to DS9 to take a teriary character and develop him into one of the best in the whole show.

6. Odo - Tough, grumpy, vulnerable, prickly, empathetic, good-hearted, sarcastic...what a great combo of qualities for a character.

It's that Starfleet curse - they aren't allowed to be imperfect and interesting. My list includes a couple main character and one that was a main character in all but name, but no Starfleeters.
