Tom Hanks plugging Star Trek again...

Watching the new "Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien" and Tom Hanks was his guest who was supposed to plug Angels and Demons but ended up plugging Star Trek instead. The man is a true trekkie! If you missed it you can watch the show on hulu.com Wednesday.

He also plugged Trek on Jon Stewart's show.

Speaking of the devil.....Conan's about to start. CIRCLE!!!

I'm sure the movie studios appreciate Hanks going out and promoting other movies.

Though that's fine with me ;)

It must be cool to be one of the small group of actors who can really do/say whatever they want and not be afraid of the studios.

That was great. If I play name the TOS episode with Hanks I probably lose, though he got the title of a famous episode wrong.

Tom Hanks as Commodore Decker?

Then Spock Prime will go up to his little son Will, kick him in the nuts and say "That's for The Motion Picture!" Then he'll kick him in the nuts again and say, "That's for Seventh Heaven!"

I wouldn't be surprised if he showed up in one of the sequels to the latest Star Trek movie. After all, he was supposed to be Zefram Cochrane. Also his career is not in quite as fine form as it was in 1996. I think every movie he did between 1992 and 2002 was solid (and successful), but he's made some very disappointing choices for roles since 2004.

Hanks was on a talk show YEARS ago, not sure which, where he talked about how, when he was doing Bosom Buddies, TWOK was filming on the same lot. Hanks and Scolari would sneak onto the Enterprise set, and pretend to be Kirk and Spock and stuff.

Dude is a serious Trek fan.

There was an interview with Jim Lovell in the extras on Apollo 13 where he said Hanks was the perfect choice to play him because he was a total closet astronaut. After watching that I guessed he would be a skiffy fan. Good old Tom.

How many sad letters to him do you think that will generate? Forget that he calls out "Mirror, Mirror" and "Balance of Terror" and Vic Tayback() but oh noes, he said "City on the Edge of Tomorrow"!

Well, those guys are actors, because they like somebody else to put words in their mouths.

If somebody finds that interview, could you include a link? I went to hulu.com, but dyslexia is preventing me from looking around enough to find it.

I'd be afraid that Hanks' presence in a Trek movie would overwhelm everything else. Or, he'd be underutilized. Neither of those would be good for the movie. Maybe a cameo. That would be enough.
