To travel in time or not to travel in time, that is the poll

Should Star Trek rely so much on time travel?

  • No time travel, just good space adventure

Why does everyone (OK not everyone, but some) focus on the word galore. The word changes nothing. It's a simple yes or no question. Time travel or no time travel. The point is should it be given a rest in Star Trek.

They focus on it because it completely changes that response from "Yes, I like time travel in Trek" to "I want time travel in Trek ALL THE TIME"

Personally, I didn't vote because my response would be that I don't care as long as the stories are good.

No it doesn't! It's a two question poll. Either there is time travel in Star Trek or there is not.

While I am glad ST changed the poll option, I don't think you worded it nearly as simply as you think you did.

"Galore" implies 'alot'. In fact, more that simply 'alot'. It implies that there would be a predominance of time travel....bordering on 'all time travel - all the time' levels.

That is what 'galore' means. It means a TON of these sorts of stories. More than you can possibly imagine or hope for, even if you LOVE time travel.

And even those of us who quite like time travel episodes don't want to see them all the time.

You were in effect giving us two choices - you don't want to see them at all, or you want to see them all the time - as much as possible.

And what we were saying is that we didn't want either of those two options. We wanted a third: 'Yeah...we are down with time travel, but in reasonable doses. Not time travel galore'.

If you can't see the distinction between what you meant and what you actually wrote, that's cool. But don't get annoyed with US. You were the one who wrote it that way, ya know. ;)

We're just minding our own business, reading English exactly as you wrote it. *shrug*

First of all, I'm not annoyed with everybody. This is all in good fun, tongue in cheek sort of stuff. Secondly, I was just dashing off a yes or no poll and trying to be colorful about it. But even after I explained that the fixation should not be on the word galore, posters still focused on it. That's what I don't understand. It's just an Internet forum. It's just a bit of fun. I clarified my questions. Several times. But a number of posters wouldn't let it go. That's what I don't get. In the real world we deal with subtle nuances and we don't take everything so literally (at least I don't). Why is it so different on the boards? If I tell you what I mean why won't you take that at face value?

Well, I'm going to take the gray-shaded option and say that while I'm not tired of time travel plots (ignored ENT), I wouldn't want an entire series or story arc based on the premise of time travel, unless it's done well, which it likely wouldn't, but bad space adventure isn't any better than bad time travel (well... maybe not). If it's crap, I'm not going to watch it. If it's the greatest show since the Shat commanded the big E on TV, then I'll watch it

I would travel back in time and stun the heck out of the person who invented time travel.

Time travel is one of the key features of Trek, without it the show would lose some of its appeal, at least for me anyway.

Id leave the time travel out of the movies, but if they do another show they have to have it in, not a lot but randomly (like Nazis and all the other weird stuff TOS did that made it...interesting)

I think that time travel stories have their place, but should be used sparingly. Enterprise put it over the edge for me. Also, why is it always the Nazi's? what about the Soviet Union? or someone else? AAHH!

USED to be a big fan (bought the "ST:Time Travel Fan Collective" or whatever it's called), but these days? NO! NOT SO MUCH!

I'd prefer only one time travel story per season, if possible. Maybe two if both them were really killer stroies.

I'd like to go back in time and stop Brannon Braga from writing time travel stories. :borg:
