I always thought the self-identified "Trekkers" sounded a bit militant, even haughty, in distancing themselves from the "Trekkies", personally. But that could just be me.

That is correct and "Trekkist" distances itself from the whole Trekkie/Trekker debate.
And goes and sees the movie. At least once. :)

Yep. And I am going with a bunch of people!!

I didn't really care for Nemesis, but I saw that a couple of times.. Had to go and see what I missed when I fell asleep the first time, and second.

I'll see it, but I'll wait for the DVD.

It's not just Trek, for me all movies are becoming more uncomfortable to sit through and harder to understand. I've pretty much given up on theaters.

As I get older my arthritis and my hearing get worse, I can sit in my orthopedic chair and run the DVD sound through my equalizer; its set to the inverse of my hearing loss so shows sound more normal to me.

If I were in better health, I'd go to the theater.

i have serious reservations about this film, but with that said i will still go see it. i hope to walk out of the theatre feeling like i did after wrath of khan, but have a feeling i might feel more like i did after viewing the final frontier.

Meh, it's simply the more grammaticly correct version of the same thing, so I am a trekker.
No hostility in any sense, just a prefered spelling.

Wow, the number of people who probably won't see it is down to 5%. That's a new low around here.

I ignore reviews of movies; they're valueless to me.

Agreed.

Most reviewers and critics have ulterior reasons for
what they say about movies, games, TV etc.
Rarely are their opinions worth listening to.
Most the time they are completely wrong.

Saying that... I have serious concerns regarding this film.
I am so afraid of it jumping out of the screen and biting my
head off and raping my exposed neck, that I couldn't
possibly go see it due to my unwarranted fear of the above.

Nope, I'll just sit at home and assume that's what's happening
and never actually know. And all those who come home alright
with proof that I was wrong can all goto hell because I know
I am right!

Even though I have no proof...

Yeah, that's about how I feel about it. I really don't care for movie theaters anymore. It's too loud and too cold and just plain uncomfortable in every single theater I've been to in the past few years. So, I'll probably buy it when it's released to DVD and watch it in the comfort of my own living room.

Actually I just watched Star Trek XI and enjoyed it quite a lot. It's called "Star Trek: Of Gods and Men". Great flick. Production values have slipped a little, but those folks sure did do great with what they had to work with!
Left me feeling happy and entertained.
Yup.
Wonderful movie!

As for J.J.Trek, well, THAT is an Abomination and is, truthfully, the Anti-Trek. I'll never give 'em a penny for that. Won't see it. Won't buy it. Won't rent it. Won't sit in the same room as the infidels who would watch it.

It's just something that will have to be endured until the glorious day when Eugene takes over the family franchise and a new day dawns. I look forward to the Return of the King and the Second Coming of Star Trek.

Have a Happy!

This movie is gonna shoehorn Star Trek into a Star Wars construct. Can you picture a time travel story in star wars ? No, because it's too much of a mishmash. If the reviews are bad I don't go. This movie is not going to make me think, except about how much time I've wasted watching the newer Star Treks.

I really wish that people would view this new film with an open mind.

If you do not like what you see after it comes out in May 2009, then you have a legitimate reason to gripe about it, but before?

Do wait and see.

I really don't like what I see in this movie. However I keep telling myself that it could be worse. It could be Star Trek Nemesis :O

Right now the percentage of folks here who will not see the movie is at about 6%.

No wonder some anti-Abrams folks are taking to fantasizing that there's a large, unidentified mass of "casual fans" out there who will not see the movie - it's all they've got left.

My ownly concern with this "reboot" is that they don't keep replacing the actors every movie like some franchises get. (For example, Batman & James Bond movies :)) Other then that, I'm a go for it.
