To See or Not To See?

Ironic...or maybe not so much...that my introduction to Trek was bare-chested Sulu with a fencing foil.

I have some concerns about the movie, "serious concerns" sounds a little too strong though; but I'm definately going to watch it no matter what.

I will go and see it no matter what, but I do feel that is going to be made in the vein of x-men, transformers e.t.c which to me is not what Star Trek is about. Oh well at least we still have the books and if the film is succesful we might get another series which will be great.

I agree. I'll see the movie no matter what; if it is good, probably twice. I also buy every trek novel made as the authors tend to listen to the fans and produce quality material.

I am also all for a new series.

I voted "serious concerns/fully intend to see it"

However, to be honest I don't know enough about it to have "serious concerns", but I do have some concerns...i.e., that trite "corvette" scene better be meaningful to the story beyond "Jimmy Kirk is a rebel"; plus the feeling that the alternate timeline characters won't feel "right" to me -- simply because we will be told they are from an alternate timeline -- no matter how much they act like the familiar characters.

These concerns will not prevent me from seeing the film, nor do I think that those concerns alone necessarily means the film will not be good.

I feel, at this point in time, given what I've seen and read so far, this movie isn't for me. I was hoping for something that was a lot closer to TOS, and this isn't it. So I'll be skipping it.

I think the best way to know if I like a film or not is to actually see it myself then be the judge.

I've heard scathing reviews of something I ended up personally liking and I've heard praises sang for films I personally discovered were crap.

I'd rather see Star Trek and judge for myself whether I like it or not than take someone else' word for it.

You are not the only one. I'm a trekkie, always have been - always will be. All this "trekker" bullshit is just ludicrous.

That is correct and "Trekkist" distances itself from the whole Trekkie/Trekker debate.

Hence: Trekkist.

I wouldn't consider myself "militant." I'm not the amongst those arguing right now whether or not the Enterprise being built on the ground violates "canon."
