To See or Not To See?

Do you currently intend to see the movie?

  • I don't have serious concerns about the movie, but probably won't see it.

Pretty much the same here, I caught my first TOS at age 5.

Ironic...or maybe not so much...that my introduction to Trek was bare-chested Sulu with a fencing foil.

None of the poll options really work for me but as I've indicated in the other similar threads on this same subject, I'll be seeing the movie as soon after it opens here as possible.

I have some concerns about the movie, "serious concerns" sounds a little too strong though; but I'm definately going to watch it no matter what.

Wow, the number of people who probably won't see it is down to 5%. That's a new low around here.

I ignore reviews of movies; they're valueless to me.

I will go and see it no matter what, but I do feel that is going to be made in the vein of x-men, transformers e.t.c which to me is not what Star Trek is about. Oh well at least we still have the books and if the film is succesful we might get another series which will be great.

I agree. I'll see the movie no matter what; if it is good, probably twice. I also buy every trek novel made as the authors tend to listen to the fans and produce quality material.

I am also all for a new series.

I voted "serious concerns/fully intend to see it"

However, to be honest I don't know enough about it to have "serious concerns", but I do have some concerns...i.e., that trite "corvette" scene better be meaningful to the story beyond "Jimmy Kirk is a rebel"; plus the feeling that the alternate timeline characters won't feel "right" to me -- simply because we will be told they are from an alternate timeline -- no matter how much they act like the familiar characters.

These concerns will not prevent me from seeing the film, nor do I think that those concerns alone necessarily means the film will not be good.

People have serious concerns about this movie?

That's pretty funny. I have serious concerns about the economy.

I feel, at this point in time, given what I've seen and read so far, this movie isn't for me. I was hoping for something that was a lot closer to TOS, and this isn't it. So I'll be skipping it.

We can't all be the island of a man that you are, dear. Some of us lack your perfect self-contained judgment. Luckily, while you eschew the opinions of others about entertainment, you are generous enough to share your immovable assessments with we poor unwashed.

So, this Thanksgiving, I am grateful for Dennis. Truly a man, for he is beyond reviews.

I think the best way to know if I like a film or not is to actually see it myself then be the judge.

I've heard scathing reviews of something I ended up personally liking and I've heard praises sang for films I personally discovered were crap.

I'd rather see Star Trek and judge for myself whether I like it or not than take someone else' word for it.

I tend to read them after the fact. To see if I was right. :D

You are not the only one. I'm a trekkie, always have been - always will be. All this "trekker" bullshit is just ludicrous.

Has a slightly militant ring to it...

That is correct and "Trekkist" distances itself from the whole Trekkie/Trekker debate.

Hence: Trekkist.

I wouldn't consider myself "militant." I'm not the amongst those arguing right now whether or not the Enterprise being built on the ground violates "canon."
