Sorry, but I really can't take anyone seriously who thinks canon is what 'made Star Trek'.Completely agree, Canon is what made star trek.

In all honesty thats one of the things i believe. But i see your point, and respect it! Honestly ive just seen a hilarious picture on the blue warp nacelles page and im in convulsions of laughter. I cant concentrate on this anymore!@!Sorry, but I really can't take anyone seriously who thinks canon is what 'made Star Trek'.Completely agree, Canon is what made star trek.
It's just fiction. It's all made up. How good a Star Trek episode or movie is, does in no way whatsoever depend on how much it adheres to canon.
If canon is really all that matters to you, then I'm really sorry you're not going to get the movie you wanted. I'm really sorry this is not about the adventures of Captain Riker on the USS Titan or whatever the hell you imagined.![]()
You should see what I have to do to get and maintain an erection. Actually no, you probably shouldn't.I've been drinking. Heavily. That is outrageously level headed and sensible!!!!![]()

Obviously; you're awake and posting.

Not mine. I couldn't care less about James T. Kirk or Spock or any of the others. They're not the Star Trek I grew up with. But if they were doing a TNG remake instead, I'd still be willing to give it a chance, especially if it looked as awesome as Abrams' film looks so far. They could have created a new crew on a new ship, from any era, and achieved the same goals. Instead they have desecrated something near and dear to my heart, if not the hearts of all trekkies!
As a loyal trekkie from birth(my father was a life long fan) i view this situation from a logical point of view. First a proven point.
Therefore as of the release of this Film, all of star trek history TOS to Nemesis is gone... Period.
- Star Trek Universe/canon, allows for only one timeline. This has been proven time and time again. To quote Worf from the DS9 EP "Children of time" if you change the past, the time line you exist in is altered. If like in that episode you stop a key event, "your timeline will collapse". Therefore if there is no reset at the end (i doubt there will be in any case) then 40+ Years of trek collapses and is deemed a dead timeline, such as the one in the above DS0 episode. Another example would be STVOY "Year of hell".
Therefore as fans we have a choice, to accept it or not.
From the cancellation of Enterprise, i longed for more trek, and rejoiced at the first Star Trek XI Poster!!! As a lifelong fan i welcomed the film when announced as it was made clear the producers and director would "remain true" to Star Trek itself.
This it would seem is not the case...
I watched Enterprise with growing dissatisfaction but as a loyal follower, devoted, and with seemingly blind faith. If i were to accept this film and view it, i would be betraying the true star trek time line.
Therefore reluctantly i will not view it. For me, Star Trek died with enterprise, and its time line ended with Nemesis... Not a brilliant ending it has to be said. But none the less an ending. I have spent thousands of Euros on star trek memorabilia over the years, and own a full collection of DVD'S, and VHS. I feel, that as a loyal Trekkie i have the right to make this choice. I impose my belief on no one. I merely make it known, and would appreciate your opinion, and how you will deal with it!
Long Live Star Trek,

Didn't Chris Pine say he molded his James T. Kirk character on Han Solo?!? Is it just me or is there anyone else out there who, to quote Han, "has really bad feeling about this!?!"
No, not really.Didn't Chris Pine say he molded his James T. Kirk character on Han Solo?!?
When asked who he would like his incarnation of the Starship Enterprise captain to most resemble, Pine responded, "I would definitely say Harrison Ford in either Indiana Jones or Star Wars. What Harrison Ford is so great at doing is bringing that quality to his characters that if they could be anywhere else in the world they would be there, but he is not, he just is in the middle of s*** and he has to figure out a way of dealing with it so that he can go back to doing whatever the hell he was doing before the film started.
"I've always loved that quality about him in Star Wars, this sense of absolute grumpy manner; the accidental hero. Not to say that I modeled my version of James T Kirk on anything in particular but I think I definitely have wanted to bring that kind of Harrison Ford humour to Kirk."

I'll be willing to accept it so long as not other films or series take place in this parallel universe. After all there's not point in spendning a lot of time in a parallel universe when our "real" Star Trek universe hasn't been fleshed out yet.
What franchise have you been watching? The Star Trek I grew up with was more that happy to toss out anything that the producers thought didn't work.Star Trek used to be something bigger and grander than a mere comic book hero, or a mere James Bond movie that rewrites itself over and over again. Star Trek used to be intact, a whole, that was ADDED to, not tossed out whenever a new writer or producer thought he could do better than those who came before.
I have no interest in a new take at all, therefor this movie has no interest to me.

What exactly hasn't been fleshed out yet? We've seen the Trek universe from the mid ninteenth century and beyond. We've had 700 televised episodes, ten movies and hundreds of comics/novels. I've read somewhere that there are nine basic story structures... that means Trek has tackled each one close to eighty times in the current universe.
What do we want next Star Trek: Caravan with Captain Maneway exploring the Beta Quadrant?
The unfortunate fact of the matter is that there aren't any 'mainstream' stories left to be told in the current continuity. Stories that will have people flocking to the theaters or turning on their TV's en masse.
