TNG's most absurd moments

The thing that has always bugged me the most are Betazoids. I can buy telepaths, but the absurdness comes with the sheer range of their abilities. A 10-20 metre radius makes sense, but Troi can read the minds of people on ships millions of kilometers away from the Enterprise. No, just no. That's completely insane.

All the times the SENIOR STAFF beamed into a hostile environment.

And in related news, the US president has been deployed to the front lines...

^More like sending Petraeus to the front line, looking for mines.

This is pretty absurd, but so is the fact that the Vulcans have a telepathic range of lightyears!

I think it was made fairly clear over a period of years on the show itself that Soong learned from Lore, and created an android that COULDN'T do everything at the time of creation but tempered it's abilities and ego but having to LEARN as it went along, that may include sneezing, laughing, dreaming, and yes...sex. Perhaps the contraction issue was just a by-product of his reduced programming complexity.

RAMA

I'd be fine with that answer if the script writers, editors, the director, and Brent himself always remembered that Data cannot use contractions. But the occasional contraction slipped in from time to time.

My favorite is when Ro, Picard and Guinan get turned into children, and their costumes shrink with them.
Apparently, their uniforms also have DNA which was damaged, consequently the uniforms never went through puberty and still fit???

I've been watching the first season on CBS recently so these spring immediately to mind;

The "harumphh" sound that Picard gives Beverley in The Naked Now

Wesley being made an acting Ensign.

Worf describing the aliens in Hide & Q as "ugly animal things"

Geordi, upon seeing Wesley age 10 years in Hide & Q saying "Hey Wes, not bad!" <shudder!>

How are those absurd?

P.S.- I don't see CBS airing TNG at all. I just checked both cbs.com and tvguide.com.

Was the "harumphh" sound due to Beverly touching his crotch? A scene unfilmed perhaps due to the networks instructions, but nonetheless still in the script and implied in that scene. IIRC, this is the case. Still its extremely weird, yet funny.

I always found it odd that Data had to ask his colleagues about idioms. Can't he just download a dictionary of idioms?

TNG is airing in syndication again. It started doing so once TOS Remastered's run finished. But it's not on CBS. It's sold to individual stations. So in one person's area, their local CBS affiliate may air it, in another area it might be the NBC affiliate, and in another area it might not air at all. As the saying goes, "check your local listings." :)

Data having to call Troi "sir."

NO! GOD-DAMN A THOUSAND TIMES NO!!!!

She was joking...

I meant that she was promoted ahead of Data. Still pisses me off that Data was the only one of the core seven characters to never be promoted or offered a permanent promotion. If anyone deserved to be promoted to full Commander it was Data, not Troi.

Funny! However, the scene in question showed the kids arriving in baggy, adult sized clothes.

(note the long sleeves)

It looks like Ro is the only one in baggy clothes.

Ro is the most obvious; but Picard and Keiko both have very baggy trousers around the ankles, and Picard's sleeves are definitely longer than usual. With Guinan, it's very hard to tell!

It's not super-realistic of course, but at least they acknowledged the issue for a change!
