The early TNG uniforms looked good, but only when the bodies inside them looked good.

Yes, I'd agree. I think they're the best uniforms (very futuristic, a real design statement, and in keeping with the idea that fabric tech is subtly different to now) but just would have looked awful by the later seasons, given how figures were changing.

It's very subtle. There are two seams running parallel down the front of the jackets in season 3 that get lost in later seasons.

The first iteration of the mandarin-collered duds with the seams and streamlined hem were featured in the first five episodes of season three.

The front darts in the first iteration were really useful in terms of shaping the uniforms to get a better fit. Shame they got rid of them. The later iterations were probably cheaper to produce, and more easily altered to fit different guest stars. But the core cast could have kept the better-fitting darted versions.

VOY-style, but my all time favourite uniform is the "All Good Things", "The Visitor" & "Endgame" uniform.

In short, I'm not especially fond of any TNG-era uniform.

Did you like the TOS uniform then? They were good for their time (1960s and that represented time in the future), but the TNG era uniforms were better in my opinion.

@Borjis, would you mind refreshing my memory about the "Yesterday's Enterprise" uniform? Aside from an imposing-military belt, I can't think of anything special about that uniform.

For sheer visual appeal, I prefer the TOS uniforms over any other Trek uniform designs. For practicality I prefer the ENT uniforms, albeit more loose-fitting versions, as the versions shown on ENT looked ridiculously undersized.

I agree. When you do a comparison of the season 3 uniforms with the darts and the fitted waist they look so much smarter than the later versions, which I think look slack and a bit slovenly on occassion.

My thoughts exactly.

Okay, here you go...this is how I feel when people praise the season 3-7 TNG uniforms (pictured below):

because I feel the season 1 uniform is much snazzier. Engage!

Althought I liked the late DS9/TNG films uniform I do agree they are propably a bit too casual, so I would go for both the late TNG and early DS9 uniforms together as seen on Generations as it makes more sense for engineers to be crawlling through jefferies tubes in an overall than the formal version.

I liked the Deep Space ones from season number one with the little flaps on top near where the purple collar showed thru. Later the undershirt was more grey lookin, and uniforms got more shiney, and more vibrant colors in season 3. Also they didnt flap out at the top as much.

My favorite is definitely the late DS9 one, with the grey shoulders and colored collar.

i heard jonathan frakes hated wearing these uniforms, anyone know why? too bulky or hot?
If this is true, I find it ironic, since they were introduced in First Contact, a film that Frakes directed, and presumably would have had a lot of input into the costumes.

My favourite are the early DS9 uniforms, always thought they looked the best.

Yes mine too! They are tops! :) I like the purple undershirt, the circle badge and the little flaps on the top of the suit! I used to have a book called the Making of Star Trek Deep Space Nine and it showed pictures of various sketches of uniforms for the show. This one and the one that looked like the Wil Wheaton Starfleet Acadamy black jumpers were my favorites!

The collars are different. instead of a gap in the center they kind of merge together.

Although the uniforms looked cool, I doubt their comfort since you always see picard pulling down the shirt part of it. For looks I'd have to agree late TNG.

The purple shirt was the one thing that bothered me

Overall I liked the DS9/VOY uniform, but I feel like the undershirt would have been better off being black or perhaps the their branch color.
