I'm sure this has occurred many times in the forum's history, but there's none like this on the first page anyway!

Which uniform of the next-gen era do you like better? See the poll for the options. Discuss.

I rather like the Type B. I like seeing the division color at the shoulders. I find it easier to see a person's shoulders through a crowd first. So if I can see a person, I can instantly tell what division he's in because his color is closer to the top of him.

I really dislike the TNG season 1-2 uniform. I think the collar part was really... dumb, for lack of a better word. It just looks very bad. The season 3-7 was a lot better.

The early TNG uniforms were quite ugly. Other than that, I like all of the later era uniforms.
I don't know which I prefer between the VOY style uniforms, and the later DS9 uniforms. Even side by side, I like them both.

I'm in the minority, I guess, in that I really didn't like the early DS9 jumpsuits. They seemed too casual to me. I liked the cut of the season 3-7 TNG uniforms, as well as the late DS9 uniforms.

I like the season 1-2 TNG uniforms, just like the season 3-7 better. And I like both TNG versions better than any from DS9.

I like both versions of the DS9 uniforms, with the dark shoulders & color collars edgin' out the other version as my favorite.

I prefer the TNG 3-7 ones. I have plans on obtaining one, science division, with Lt. CMDR pips.

I prefer season 3 TNG uniforms (they are altered again after season 3) and the First Contact uniforms (as I think of them, rather than DS9 uniforms). I think I'm probably in a minority in that I don't dislike season one uniforms. I think they look futuristic and "spacey".

What was changed after season 3?

It's very subtle. There are two seams running parallel down the front of the jackets in season 3 that get lost in later seasons. Also, the jackets are more fitted in season 3 ( and may be made of different fabric to later seasons - although that bit is just me guessing).

Season 6 (without seams).

Also the bottom of the jackets seemed to have a more streamlined hem in season 3 that became a more elasticated band later on.

The first iteration of the mandarin-collered duds with the seams and streamlined hem were featured in the first five episodes of season three. Picard is the first one to get the "improved" jacket with the spandex waistband and no seams in "Booby Trap."

The first iteration was then completely gone in the next following episodes.

Also, Beverly initially had a two-piece uniform in the first three or so episodes, which had a darker teal color (much like the original Theiss uniforms). However, she started wearing the spandex one-piece version of the third-season unis in "Who Watches the Watchers," which became the standard for the female uniforms.

I prefer Theiss' original design because, like the original uniforms, they were simplistic and cut a nice silhouette. The downside was that you had to be super trim and fit.

Blackman's initial third-season design, with the seams, closely mimicked the silhouette of Theiss' uniform. But the later version used for the remainder of the series made the men look bulky. That's because the top didn't drape as well thanks to that damn spandex waistband.

My favorite is definitely the late DS9 one, with the grey shoulders and colored collar. I have one in red. :D My second favorite is the TNG 3-7 ones. I like the early DS9 ones, but they seemed more like a casual variant of a uniform, and like they shouldn't be wearing them all the time. And the early TNG ones were just kinda bad. :p

The best were the late DS9 one.

I did like the TNG season 5-7 duty uniforms though and also the DS9 season 1-5/Voyager ones.

surprised nobody else mentioned the "Yesterdays Enterprise" uniforms. Those are my favorite.

I hate the season 3-7 uniforms. They're so bulky and awkward-looking with the way that Picard and Riker always have to pull them down because they hike up.

I like the season 1-2 uniforms better. Apparently I'm one of the only people who feels that way. They may have been less comfortable for the actors, but they sure looked a lot nicer.

I guess the grey ones from DS9 season 5-7 were the best-looking. I liked that the early DS9 uniforms had more colour, but when you see a person's whole figure in them, they look too much like jump suits or like a mechanic's uniform. Not cool.

The early TNG uniforms looked good, but only when the bodies inside them looked good. The later TNG uniforms were more forgiving to less fit males, but the need for the "Picard Maneuver" was... silly. The mostly black DS9-era uniforms -- both earlier and later -- were boring.

In short, I'm not especially fond of any TNG-era uniform.

The early TNG unis were idiotic and horribly 80's. Every uniform after it was a vast improvement, but I'm particularly fond of Picard's gray uni/jacket seen in S5 onwards and the black/gray unis we first saw in First Contact.

Did you like the TOS uniform then? They were good for their time (1960s and that represented time in the future), but the TNG era uniforms were better in my opinion.

@Borjis, would you mind refreshing my memory about the "Yesterday's Enterprise" uniform? Aside from an imposing-military belt, I can't think of anything special about that uniform.
