TNG Rewatch Thread

^ What bothered me about "In Theory" was the fact that Jenna never really cared about Data -- it was more about *her* than it was about Data. I wish the episode had focused on a more functional relationship as it would have provided a much more plausible foundation to explore Data's thoughts and "emotions" where love is concerned. But, alas, the "relationship" needed to end before the end of the episode so it was made to be flawed from the beginning.

^ You're right, she didnt really care, not in the romantic sense. He was a rebound thing for her, which i thought was still believeable.

Ooh, I've got 'In Theory' and 'Half a Life' to come in a couple of days.

Just watched 'The Nth Degree'. Love Lt. Barclay, but am happy with his only being an occasional guest, I think he would be too annoying if full time. The *means* also seemed a little too dramatic towards a somewhat mediocre *end*.

'Qpid' ~ shows Jean-Luc at his most uptight until Q intervenes. I can imagine Vash being a bit put out that he did not mention her and great to see the 'propriatory' instincts of Crusher and Troi come out. I'm not surprised Vash decided to go with Q, she would have been too inhibited with J-Luc.
This episode also gives Worf his best line ever...
'Captain, I protest, I am not a merry man' :guffaw:

^ OH YES! Worf's "I am not a merry man!" is one of my most favorite Worf lines. That and from First Contact, "If you were any other man i would kill you where you stand", along with Insurrection's Definitely feeling aggressive tendencies sir!"

When he comes out with those one liners i just die!

Vash annoys the hell out of me. I can't even put my finger on why exactly. She just rubs me the wrong way. But i do love Q-Pid. It is a great ep.

As much as i love Barclay, i have to agree with you. Too much of him would not be a good thing. He really shines in the 7th season ep called "Genesis", which is one of my all time favorite eps. I won't discuss it as i think you may be going in order and havent' seen that one yet.

Looking foward to when you watch "In Theory" and "Half a Life"...

Agreed ~ Worf's one liners and delivery are perfect  He is, obviously, one of my favourite characters :klingon:

Know what you mean about Vash ~ she's someone you should like ~ great strong female character, attractive, clever, brave. But she is just too smug for me, and I wouldn't trust her. She'd be the kind of friend that you went to a bar with and she'd constantly be looking over your shoulder for a better opportunity. She is a good love interest for Jean-Luc, but they could never be together, the original 'star-crossed' lovers :sigh:

Yes I am going through in order but it's great to read others opinions so I know what to look out for :)

Exactly! I just feel like you couldn't trust her as far as you could throw her. She is a little too much like a Ferengi as far as i am concerned. I never really understood the 'connection' she and Picard had. I thought he was so much more suited to be with Nella Daren. Of course, i have to remind myself as i repeat my mantra "It isnt real. It isnt real"....

Rewatched The Drumhead last night and wow, there is some great acting in that episode. Great acting and a great story. Wah. I miss TNG.

I agree. It's a terrific ep. My fave part is when Satie has a meltdown and yells, "I've brought down bigger men than you, Picard!"

I'm watching a number of eps out of sequence, as I can't bear many of the duds, so I've been hopping around. If you haven't watched all the eps of a show, it is better to watch them in order to see the characters develop.

Red Ranger

...I thought he was so much more suited to be with Nella Daren...

Had to look that one up and it's one I don't remember, due to watch in a while, will remember your thoughts :)

Watched Drumhead last night, was very good episode but didn't think it showed Worf in a particularly good light. I can understand his reluctance to agree to the transfusion for the Romulan in The Enemy, but his disgust for Tarses in this episode is unfortunate.

Picard at his best and awesome acting by Jean Simmons as Satie.
Agree with RR about that line ~ you just knew when she blurted it out it was she herself who was going down.

I agree with you regarding Worf. It didnt put him in a good light, but i did buy his behavior nonetheless. He's always so quick to want to 'raise shields' or go on the attack. I think he lives with a little paranoia, whether it is due to him being a Klingon, a security officer or what. But thats what i love about TNG. Not everyone is always seen in the perfect light.

^ A lot of paranoia but due to his Klingon parents being killed by Romulans, so easy to understand.
I love that he is so passionate and stands up 100% for what he believes, and I also think it's great the mutual respect Picard and Worf have for each other.

Another thing they have in common ~ being unlucky in love :(

Finished Series 4.

In Theory: Agree with Samuel Walters, the whole thing was about her and it was definately a 'rebound' thing for her ~ frightful woman, Data deserves a lot better

Rememption I: I love the relationship between Picard and Worf. Jean-Luc comes over like the father of a grown-up wayward son but respects Worfs decision re. his Klingon heritage and helps as much as he is morally able to. Excellent so far...

This is prob the longest I have ever gone without watching a STNG episode...I lterally can't remember the last time..its been at least 3 months I think...

I love their relationship too. The mutual respect. Which gives their bridge dialogue in First Contact so much more oooomph, so to speak.

Ok, so your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to pop in a dvd tonight....

Last night i rewatched The Perfect Mate. This was a terrific episode on so many levels. Famke Janssen was just perfect as Kamala! I loved Riker's "If you need me i'll be in the holodeck" line. There was the "Is this slavery or prostitution" thread, the Prime Directive, and the wonderful and subtle acting by Patrick Stewart as he slowly falls in love with Kamala. Alrick is so skanky and it hurts Picard to think of Kamala with him. And Kamala who has bonded with Picard but still goes through with her duty, with a smile. Oh i loved this episode!

Episodes Seen During My Second bout of Marathoning:

A Matter of Honor [A]
This is a fun episode. I like Klingons and Riker's humor though, so your opinion may vary.

The Measure of a Man [A+]
Maybe the best cerebral episode of Star Trek ever. There's just something about this episode that forces you to sit down and give it your full attention. Certainly beats a regular Law & Order episode.

The Dauphin [B-]
Eh... it's kind of silly, but I like the Wesley scenes. I'd never seen this episode before this year.

The Royale [C]
Yeah, it's silly. I've read Mel Torme was pretty pissed with how they handled his script. I don't blame him. It's too open ended for my tastes.

Time Squared [C]
I thought I would still enjoy this episode the second time around, but apparently not. It's got some big ideas, but I think they fall flat.

The Icarus Factor [A]
Another one of my favorites. I think Riker episodes turn out to be great for the most part.

Pen Pals [C]
It's nothing memorable.

Q Who? [B+]
The introduction of the Borg, you have to appreciate it for the last effects it had on Trek.

Samaritan Snare [A]
This episode manages to be humorous with the Geordi story and very poignant with the Picard scenes. I like it.

Up the Long Ladder [F]
Facepalm

Manhunt [C]
Not humorous, just silly

The Emissary [A]
I always love a good Worf episode. This is one of his best.

Peak Performance [A]
Another great episode. This was the first time I had seen this one. I'm glad that the master tactitian got put in his place. I probably would have decapitated him, though.

Shades of Gray [F]
okay... I'll be honest... I didn't rewatch it

I'll probably be limited to 1-2 episodes a day, so this should take me quite a while.

This is probably a good thing. When i was going through the show for the first time, i limited myself to 5 episodes in a 7 day week. I definitely think that i enjoyed the show a lot more by doing this.

I have watched many since!! I seem to go in phases...:bolian: I'm actually watching Blake's 7 and Season 1 of Babylon 5 in order. I haven't watched more than a handful of either since I first saw them. Doesn't leave much time for STNG. At least its freezing cold outside and Im not missing anything.

It's been so long since I've seen TNG that tonight I decided to have a rewatch of my own. Watched Encounter at Farpoint and The Naked Now and found myself liking both. I'm probably not going to do a thread (Even though if people want me to, than I will...They don't seem to gain much traction, especially for a 20+ year old series) but it is great revisiting this series after so long. I do also stop and watch some TNG when it's on TV and was watching parts of Fistful of Data's a week ago. I had forgotten that one.

The weird thing is when I watch some of the early TNG stuff I find myself counting the years that have passed since it was on originally and how things were different then(the world). Then Im like, man its been 19 years or 18 years or whatever... wow did the time fly...
