TNG Rewatch Thread

Where Silence Has Lease [B-] - This was the first episode I'd ever seen of any Star Trek series. It was fun to go back and watch.

Elementary, Dear Data - This is a fun episode.

The Outrageous Okona [B-] - I hadn't seen this one before, and was impressed. Two slightly silly episodes in a row, but they were entertaining.

Loud as a Whisper [A] - This is a very good episode. The best script of the season so far.

I've come to really like Loud as a Whisper. I guess it has something to do with the guy who played Riva was actually deaf, so you get a sense of realism there. It was just a great quiet episode.

The Schizoid Man - B (Practically a possession story)

It's original... but at the same time it's not, I guess.

So do you recommend going in order from the beginning?

I only ask because I bought the 7 season set and have just been jumping around for about a week or so.

I reccomend watching it in DVD order. There's atleast a sort-of arc dealing with Worf during second through fourth seasons, the show flows better and, well, it just makes the most sense to watch them in order rather than randomly.

;)

Oh yeah, definitely. I always tell people to watch in order, even for other shows, like Buffy or Malcolm, or whatever. As the seasons progress you see how each character develops, particularly as the actors get comfortable in their shoes. Plus you have the story arcs.

The only trouble is that then you have to sit through the unbearable episodes...but i still think watching in order is the only way one should go.

just mho.

I agree. Sitting through the duds also helps build an appreciation for what the series does well. Besides, even in the worst episodes, there's usually a decent scene or two that makes the 45 minute time investment worthwhile.

I highly recommend watching the series in order, which I have never really done before. The character evolutions are remarkable.

Im having a difficult time following my own advice about watching in order right now: i am rewatching DS9 and the bad episodes (most of season one, my opinion) are making it difficult. And with TNG there are quite a few bad ones in the early seasons.

And as for Encounter at Farpoint: i just want to smack Troi silly at the end. "I sense **** and gratitude" (i dont remember the full line). But, my god, she is useless!

Definitely watch it from the beginning. As others have put it, watching the character development makes it very rewarding.

Several years ago, when TNG was released onto DVD, a TrekBBS member (can't remember who) said this after watching the show from beginning to end (and I'm paraphrasing); Watching the final few moments of All Good Things, with Picard playing poker with the crew, it was like saying goodbye to old friends.

Rewatched The Drumhead last night and wow, there is some great acting in that episode. Great acting and a great story. Wah. I miss TNG.

Excellent thread timing:) Watching TNG all through as well. Currently up to Season 4.
Exceptional episodes so far in 4;
Best of Both Worlds ~ obviously
Family ~ brilliant to have an episode like that after such drama. Worf realising how much he loves his Mum and Dad made me tear up.
Reunion ~ made me remember why I chose to be K'ehleyr. She is such a wonderful character; strong, wise, courageous and humourous. Would have loved to see her stay, she would have stirred up the main female characters and totally kicked Troi's ass :klingon:
Final Mission ~ really quite moved by Wesley in that episode (yes I really said that )
Data's Day ~ I love Data and his observations

So far so good in the majority although last nights Devil's Due was a bit lame

omg. Just finished rewatching "Half a Life". I swear, this show truly was outstanding. The writing was so good, and David Ogden Stiers' performance was absolutely heartbreaking!

Yeah, I only knew him from M*A*S*H before that episode, and thought he was amazing.

This was also Michelle Forbes' first episode of TNG, and maybe her best performance.

The worst performance for her hair, however.

Interesting to note, when we see DOS working at LCARS panel the display has the number "4077" on it. The number for the MASH unit Major Winchester III was assigned to. :)

:guffaw:

She was awesome in that role. She made her viewpoint (which in our culture would be shocking) very believeable. And i just read in my compendium it was her strong performance that won her the role for Ensign Ro.

I watched this episode last week, and I brought up Michelle in a hairstyle topic in one of the forums. It was probably STII, since I remember M'Sharak participating.

I'm rewatching STNG; and by coincidence, Ensign Ro is today's episode.

Last night i rewatched, among other episodes, "In Theory" which is definitely one of my favorites. I can say without hesitation, that i believe Brent Spiner was one of the best actors on Star Trek. And the script for that episode is just too good for words! It is funny, touching and heartbreaking! The way he just deletes the program he had set up for Jenna without pause.....
