This really goes without saying. It'll be a new production team working with him, undoubtedly a new premise, & a new audience even, to some extent. The people hatching this more than likely just want the PR boost of having a huge Trek icon in their pocket... not to say they won't have some appreciation for it too, maybe, but when all is said & done, it literally CAN'T just be some nostalgia porn.Anyone thinking they're just going to get TNG:20 years later is in for a shock. You can't go home again. The characters have moved on, their Enterprise days long behind them. We've already seen a future TNG crew reunite to help Jean-Luc Picard one last time in "All Good Things" so we're not going to be seeing a repeat of that.
People thought they were getting that with the reunited Star Wars cast, & look how that's panning out for them, with a dead Han Solo & all their Luke Skywalker bitching, on top of the loss of Carrie Fisher. That said... As close as Stewart is with the TNG main cast in real life, I almost can't imagine this thing going down without them surfacing in it... somewhere
I mean, come on. It's his tv family for god sake. I could be wrong of course, but I literally can't see him getting his foot in the door, & not holding it open for some or all of them. Those people love each other. I don't know how much star power you can assume Stewart is packing these days, but from just the PR of the past few days alone, he's got some pull.
I don't know how many people that truly represents, but it's got me thinking about it, & I wasn't planning on it for just Discovery. It's certainly a move they did deliberately for that reason. And, realistically, Picard is a bigger draw for people on the fence about getting CBSAA.
