Picard in his own series? Not TNG?! Well, then ... in that case ... I couldn't be happier for Sir Patrick Stewart. This endeavour has my fullest support.

From what Ted Sullivan said on Twitter it was KMFB's idea for the show:

This #Picard news is very exciting. It's the brain child of our dear friend and lifelong Trek "keeper of the flame" #KirstenBeyer. This couldn't have happened to a better or more talented artist and human being! Exciting times for #StarTrek!
I'm pretty friggin' happy for her!
That would be kind of strange, from a fan point of view. It would take some getting used to. But it's entirely appropriate for the character. I'm just kind of surprised that enticed Sir Patrick Stewart into coming back, if that's what, in fact, brought about his return.I'm guessing he'll be a teacher in a Starfleet Academy series. I seriously doubt they will have him commanding a Starship.
But don't the JJ movies and new series have to keep stuff separate now? idkCommenter Ben Grimm over at BirthMoviesDeath has an interesting theory about what this show could be:
"My guess: Ambassador Picard dealing with the fallout of the explosion of Romulus. Single story, non-episodic, leads to the Romulans joining the Federation (or at least becoming allies) and a hopeful, peaceful future."
And...my interest just went up from 'Hmmm...' to 'Really ?' !Not only is Kirsten motherfucking Beyer a member of the creative team, the whole show was her idea!
From @JoeP over in the 2019 book thread:
Wow, Frakes looks older then Stewart now..... while Stewart has barely aged a day. Haha.
