TNG episodes that would have been better with Cpt. Kirk.

would play like "The City on the Edge of Forever"
Don't see your comparison.
getting a second crack at Yar
The Yar counterpart could be Gary Mitchell, alive in the YE universe, but died in the prime universe. It's difficult to think who would be the Guinan character, able to sense the change in the universe and knowing of Mitchell's death.

David. David is alive. Stakes go through the roof.

(TNG with the TOS crew would naturally begin on the A after TVH, in 1987.)

Ah. There you go.

Mitchell definitely works if it is set during the first or second five year missions, although a hypothetical TNG stand in with the original crew would make the most sense coming when TNG actually aired, right when Kirk got his ship back, post TVH. It was the perfect set up to relaunch the show.

I've always wanted a thread to go through TNG episode by episode, analyzing how the TOS crew would have handled it / how it would be rewritten as a TOS episode.

Of course not. Whatever floats your pontoon. Just the same to me a funny thing to be on an “I always wanted to...” list.

In the context of message boards for trek, because you know, that's kind of the point...?

- With Satie, Kirk would have eventually gotten up and slapped some sense into her, on the screen.

Next you'll tell me that she'd look like a pretty 25 year-old too, very evocatively dressed and filmed with soft focus, even though she's really 80 or so, attesting to the amazing state of Federation medical science ;)

For the Inner Light; Kirk would have realized he was in a computer generated memory, found a way to access the A.I. controlling it; and talked/tricked it into downloading it's info the 1701 main computer and letting him go. He would have passed the flute to Spock who would have played a Vulcan related tune with it that they would reuse in future episodes ad nauseum.

That would be very Kirkian, yes, but would take out the heart of the story.

Ewww none. TNG doesn't need Kirk prancing around like a horny howler monkey, we have Riker for that. And Riker at least doesn't have (pause) that annoying (pause) speech (pause) pattern.
Though a few of the early TNG episodes (The Naked Now, Justice, Code of Honour, Angel One and the one with Minuette) certainly feel more like bad TOS episodes.
