tng blueprinting WIP

I would like to include something for the escape pods themselves, probably in a callout with a couple standard shuttles.

however, i cant find anything on the escape pods. has anyone touched on this yet, before i go off on a new design tangent?

the only picture ive come across in my galaxy stuff is this one, and i cant even recall where i came from (or even IF it is representing an escape pod, i'm just assuming because of the shape). i'm guessing its from the EAS site.

any thoughts?

it turns out that pic i posted is from the TNG Tech Manual :) good call. i cant find one in my area though, even hit the bookstore today :(

i did end up roughing in a floorplan layout. i was surprised how much real estate i was able to get out of it! i was able to get in a 15 person capacity, with ample room left for the "guts".

on the saucer alone there are 399 escape pods (plus 16 more on the model at the separation seam, which are now "equipment hatches"), with this configuration that gives a maximum capacity for the saucer section at 5,985 souls!

i had to replace all my lil Lego guys in there today once i began taking measurements for all the internal junk... Lego dude needs to go on a diet!!!

you can see how spacious the decks really are now without mr fatso in there. haha

and the final update for this weekend, the starboard profile is getting more detailed.

and i finally began laying down deck footprints

haha, ive only made it to page 23 so far in the tech manual.

page 23 describes the coordinate system used, and has a handy graphic locating 5 obvious points on the hull. so i decided to "grade myself"

the point for the outer rim of the saucer has a misprint however! it calls for 27,987 centimeters offset from the centerline. it should read 22,987. i think the bottom of the "2" must have smudged off sometime before printing :guffaw:

overall the stated coordinates in the manual average from 21 feet to 25 feet off from what i have down now (i'd prefer 21 to 25 inches), not perfect, but still its 99.98% accuracy!!!

red points mark the Tech Manuals given coordinates.

ok, thats page 23.. only 150 more to get through untill i reach the callouts for the escape pods.... HAHA

Well, here's how it stands.

the spec in the manual describes a 9meter cube for the pods, of 2 types, 3 or 5 person capacity.

my pods are much larger.

so now, i'm conflicted. go with my uber-pods (since the ones in the manual never got any screen-time). or put multiple pods under each hatch, and entries at both sides. ?

i'll ponder it as i move on to other parts

here's another detail i've been putting off making a decision on.

i've always liked the phaser's on the 4' model better than the original ones. however i've avoided taking details from the smaller model. which do you prefer?

well, for not planning on opening this file up today i'm sure neck-deep in it! :guffaw:

^ i may marry the two in some sort. i was searching for the cross-section of the guts yesterday, this isnt the profile i remember finding in the past, but i replicated the one i came across today in the tech manual.

i will probably use the "flare" of the divots on the 6'er, with the layout of the 4'er, with an extra row in the center portion to reflect the triple-axis of the cross section.

the overall cross section is starting to look pretty nice, now that i'm getting some things to actually fill it out on the inside other that floors!

Keep in mind that the Lifeboats have double hatches so they can link themselves together and share resources and
so on per the tech manual. Keep up the great work by the way :techman:

i'd estimate its about 65-70% finished, and there is just a hair under 40,000 objects in the drawing already!!! yikes

I knew there was a reason why i didn't add all that detail
on the Autocad drawings I did of her Years ago :rommie: But seriously great job there :techman::techman::techman::techman::techman::bolian:
