TMP's goosebumps...2010

I know how you feel. I still have my original "The Voyage Home" VHS tape that came out before TNG had started airing and it has this rather long promo for TNG on it. I still get excited watching it.

God I so remember that...I wish I still had that tape but lost it years..no..decades ago!! LOL...is that preview up on YOUTUBE yet?

Rob

Yep. :)

Wow...I sooooo remember that!!!

I own the model referenced above. That is a COPY of the Phase II, made by Brick Price's shop, and then reworked to look like the TMP-E. It is absolutely not the original....and I would not have reworked the original. Other copies are visible in a few of the Planet Hollywoods... such as NYC... for your viewing pleasure.

Bless you Search4. I was horrified to see that "restoration" E in the drydock. The drydock looked great but Miarecki really needs to stay away from the E models.

I've only seen a few photos of the PII E, mainly on Andy Probert's great site. Are you able to share any photos of your original and the story of how you obtained it, and maybe clear up some of the conjecture as to its size? And what exactly was Brick Price's involvement in the PII E? Did he build the original and the copies? When and why were the copies originally made? I've seen photos of at least one of the copies and wasn't really impressed; the nacelles in particular seem to have a severe sag problem. I for one would greatly appreciate your input.

So a bit more detail - and not sure it belongs in this thread. Much of what i've put together is from several sources and apologize in advance if there are inaccuracies...this is my best understanding.

Several Planet Hollywood's show a USS Enterprise. If you look at one, and there's one in the NYC PH, they're not familiar. It is said that that this is a copy of the Phase II model, and these were made by Brick Price,

Whether or not made by Mr. Price, the one I obtained was found unclaimed from a storage facility. There are a few "original" pics below. The model is about 6 feet long and was designed to hang from strings from above (unlike a filming model). I wanted a ship to fit in the drydock, and had it modified to resemble the TMP-E. Ed Miarecki fixed the drydock but did NOT do the ship modification, that was another shop (who helped me find and check out the model).

I can't comment on the differences between the Probert-era Phase II pictures, what they might have done later as they got more final, etc. and this model.

So... since my guesses involve a lot of supposition... is it an accurate Phase II copy?

My son and I went to the comic book store on saturday. They sell 'used' comics in a special area where you can by 12/comic books for 10$. So he and I will scour the boxes for bronze age comics; mine, and now his, favorites.

We came across World's Finest #259. And sure enough, on the very first page, is the TMP movie ad. You know the one; the ENTERPRISE at an angle with head shots of the stars across the bottom with the "Coming this christmans to a theatre near you" tag on the bottom. I haven't seen one of these ads in years.

But I definately remember seeing it all those years ago, and the goosebumps I got when I saw it that first time. Does anyone know if that image of the Enterprise is a painting/drawing? Or is a 'live' shot of the model that was going to be used for Phase II?

Anyway, great memory! Of course my six year old son could have care-a-less. Oh well...it was fun while it lasted..

Aren't there any current-day kid's titles that your son can read?

Yep..he is an avid reader of BATMAN/BRAVE AND THE BOLD comic book, which is inspired by the present day cartoon series. He doesn't care much for today's comic books with all the idiotic zombie stuff going on, I don't either.

If I recall, that was only Marvel Comics with their Marvel Zombies miniseries/trading card set; that's not all of them. There a are a few good series, like the current Superman/Supergirl storylines about Krypton and Earth, and the current Captain America story line about a Tea Party group and it's use of the second Captain America in its nefarious plans (I'm buying the comics and not the graphic novels, because I want the scenes where the Tea Baggers are shown making fools of themselves in a New York protest-they will be edited out of the graphic novel versions, and I want to see the good Captain kick the butt of contemporary evil.)

I'm also reading Buck Rogers and Logan's Run: Lastday, but the latter one is not really for kids, though the former is. There's also the new Green Hornet series, with the current Green Hornet and Kato (who is a sexy female this time around!) and I may be even buying Spider-Man because it seems that Peter and MJ will be getting back together. So all in all, not a bad time for new comics as you might think; you've just got to look around.
