TMP Theory on Captain Archer

I have a theory on why the Enterprise NX-01 and Captain Archer are not mentioned as much in the primary universe:

It was probably because of the controversial things that Archer did, like torture and leave the Kobayashi Maru to be destroyed.

Was the Kobayashi Maru test even given back in his day?

I think the biggest reason the NX and Archer never appeared in the Prime Universe was that just about every story told in the Prime occurred before that series existed.

He was mentioned in 'Nemesis' in a way- one of the starships heading to meet Picard was named after him as shown on the giant graphic...

Yes, I know that that was the real reason, but there is a relaunch novel for Star Trek: Enterprise called "Kobayashi Maru" (not the TOS novel) that explains how the Kobayashi Maru incident came to be. I haven't read that far into it, but Captain Archer had to leave the Kobayashi Maru freighter to be captured by the tele-capture device by the Romulans. It was a huge event then, I was referenced many times during the Romulan War novels. Later, Starfleet used the event to make a 'no-win' scenario to test cadets.

Maybe Enterprise only came into existence after the events of First Contact?
I think it's at least plausible that, if we accept the alternate timeline approach to First Contact instead of the predestination paradox one, the ship may have been renamed 'Enterprise' following Cochrane's hearing of the name and Lilys time aboard. Simply changing the name would neatly explain why didn't come up later when discussing the 'fifth starship to bear the name' and so on, as well as the various displays of Enterprises. Perhaps pre First Contact timeline, the NX-01 was called 'Phoenix' or 'Endeavour' or something.

I take it as being in the prime timeline, and the reason they don't mention Archer is probably for the same reason they rarely ever mentioned Kirk and they never mentioned Pike in later series. He may not have been relevant to what they're talking about. And we don't hear all conversations. And you know, they rarely mentioned the founding of the Federation, and they rarely ever mention the President of the Federation, even the current one.

Of course, we all know the concept of Star Trek: Enterprise hadn't been thought of at the time.

A far simpler explanation is that the ships displayed in the rec room are only some ships named Enterprise, not all of them. You'll note there's only one aircraft carrier Enterprise pictured there, despite the fact that by the time the movie was made there had been two.

How often, in our day-to-day lives, do we talk about people--even famous people--who lived 100 to 200 years ago?

Perhaps pre First Contact timeline, the NX-01 was called 'Phoenix' or 'Endeavour' or something.

Dauntless. :)

Did I miss something? Archer tortured someone? And he let the Kobayashi Maru be destroyed? When did this happen?

Didn't he torture someone during the xindi incident, it's been a while since I saw season 3 but didn't Archer struggled a little with his morality in this season?

"Torture" is an exaggeration, though to be fair I think it's made in the show itself, basically it's in reference to when he shoved that alien in the airlock and threatened to blow him out to space unless he started talking, early in season 3.

Letting the Kobayashi Maru be destroyed is a reference to the novels, in other words, not canon.
