TMP Enterprise flyby testshot

Looks fantastic. Have you played with film grain at all? A little bit might go a long way to reduce the digitalness of the footage.

REL - Thank you! How´s the D coming along?

Belisarius - there is Grain on the footage. I am just no big fan of overdoing grain, especially if you want to put it on heavily compressing output like youtube.

It's amazing work. Beautiful render and perfect animation.

I do see what Belisarius means. Your "new Enterprise warping in..." model has a little more "real" look to it.

I totally understand. YouTube's compression is horrible in general. I couldn't see any additional film grain post proc at the resolution I viewed it, but I figured you'd add some. Frankly, I think IRML got it right with his rendered yacht footage (granted, that's interiors until you hit the end of the footage, but his technique really improved the photorealism). You might want to try using Vimeo instead of YouTube...their HD support is significantly better.

Now, that's the Enterprise! Majestic, active, eager, loaded. I'll always consider this version of the ship "home." What I particularly like about your rendering is that you can peek in just about anyplace and see what's going on inside. The colossal tree growing in the arboretum catches your eye right away, a bit like the tree growing at the top of the Decatur County Courthouse tower:

This is a question, not a nitpick: I'm noticing that on your model, Tobias, the "dovetail" of the ship is not textured with plates like the rest of the ship, but instead looks like one single plate. I know that's not always how the ship looked on film:

...but it doesn't particularly look better on film anyway. Was this a design decision on your part?
