Did Gene ever try to explain how they'd actually pull that off? I doubt living in an underground cavern would be a pleasant experience.

The claustrophobia would be off the charts...

Nothing specific that I can recall in terms of the underground cities. @Maurice might recall more. But lots of TGT script and early TMP drafts show humans frolicking in parks. There's an opening sequence of Kirk swimming in the Bay. So humans weren't confined to those dwellings. But seemed one with nature.

That's about one of the stupidest ideas I've ever heard. Somebody thought humans were going to turn into morlocks. I guess they plowed over the city of Mojave from the cage episode because you know you want to remove above-ground structures and move everybody Underground

They were fixed with the DE DVD. They will be fixed even better for the 4K DE. Unless you mean the missing matt for Kirk's spacesuit scene, which doesn't appear in the theatrical version, nor the DE DVD, only the "Special Longer Version".

Now, we just need a release date of when it's going to drop on Paramount Plus.

They probably have a specific date they wanted to release it on, and were just uploading the video in advance so it would be ready, but accidentally selected the wrong privacy option. It happens all the time.

Living underground along a fault line, what could go wrong.

I have not had difficulties so far in utilizing VHS. No doubt that will change, but I like thrift shopping.

I should add that I will move more towards DVD as money allows, but I prefer VHS if I can. There's a beautiful simplicity to it.

they're getting into the era of nostalgia buys. There's still a lot of NOS video tapes and even NOS players, but good NOS vhs tapes are running up to $14 or half of a cheap dvd player, now. Any tape media has a certain lifespan to it, and eventually the belts will foul on the players themselves but nice to enjoy it while it last, i guess. And belts are replaceable.

I've seen the prices on CED and Laserdisc players climb over the years, especially laserdisc which has more titles. CED styluses (styli?) will eventually wear out and be irreplacable, though laserdiscs can go much longer, provided again the belts and motors last and laser-rot hasn't destroyed the media.

Oooo! This is the big one. If you want to hear how rough the sound team had it when making the original Director's Edition, just listen to this part of the film when V'Ger attacks the Enterprise for the first time.

You can just hear the computer voice announcing "Incoming fire ahead zero mark zero". Hopefully they got the right ADR takes to fix this. Who knows? Wonder if they'll even save "Standard on viewer!" even though it works just as fine without it.

And he specifically mentions Decker and Ilia in engineering with Scotty but he doesn't mention the other scenes if indeed they did find other deleted scenes. Perhaps they found the footage of the security guard. But obviously that would be incomplete because they never finished the effect of him being digitized.

Yeah, even if these just make a "deleted scenes" extra or get included on a new documentary that ends up on the disk....it would be cool to see. I don't expect them to be integrated into the film...but seeing some snippets (like what they have on the memory wall stuff) would be interesting.
