TMP-DE fully restored in 4K…it’s about time!

The gold was approved by Robert Wise for the DVD, and the white titles were always a placeholder for which time ran out in 1979. It'll be interesting to see what they go with.

Wonder if or how much of the extended edition was included.
Looking forward to it, but the P+ app ... Sucks.... At least in the Xbox

I'm excited for this...but the exclusive premier on P+ irritates me. For whatever reason, I can't get surround sound on the P+ platform any longer. I stream through an XBox One S, and apparently surround (I have a 7.2 system) is apparently now only supported on certain streaming platforms. Very frustrating.

I'm not even planning to subscribe to P+ just for this, I'll hold out for the far superior version on Blu-ray.

I don't have the patience! Back when the DVD was released, I bought a DVD player JUST to be able to watch this version of the movie. Although I'm a much bigger fan of owning physical media, I have no doubt that I'll be logged into P+ on April 5th to see how this new version of the film came out.

Personally I'd rather wait for the UHD disc. Physical media still beats the compression/encoding of streaming content.

I don't think any more scenes were inserted into this cut that had previously appeared in the special longer edition as opposed to the theatrical cut. This is essentially the same movie as the 2001 Director's Edition, just with visuals revamped.

Yeah, it's an upgrade of the existing Director's Edition that Robert Wise signed off in 2000, so I don't expect anything in terms of extra scenes or alternative shots. It's the visuals and the soundtrack that will be enhanced.

I'm not in a huge rush and would rather wait to see it in all of it's HD glory as opposed to seeing a badly compressed streamed version. :)

Are they still available for sale, parts for repairing? New blank tapes?

I wish I had known you back when I was looking for someone to take all my home-recorded Trek VHS tapes off my hands.
I have not had difficulties so far in utilizing VHS. No doubt that will change, but I like thrift shopping.

I should add that I will move more towards DVD as money allows, but I prefer VHS if I can. There's a beautiful simplicity to it.

Are they even going to put out a DVD copy of the new DE? I’m pretty sure the new 4K transfers box set was only put out on UHD and BRD.

Which goes against the authorial intent of the original TMP creative team where Earth is mostly parkland. Only a small part of Old San Francisco exists, mostly as a tourist and museum attraction. And most everything else, transportation and residential, is underground.

Something Roddenberry had in other abandoned scripts for TMP, including The God Thing.

I'd be surprised if there's a DVD release - there's the original version for that!

How dull. Glad they didn't go that route.

Did Gene ever try to explain how they'd actually pull that off? I doubt living in an underground cavern would be a pleasant experience.

The claustrophobia would be off the charts...
