I have to admit I didn't bother to read the thread. I happened to see the picture in another source.

But, has anybody bothered to explain why anyone would be using the only cellphone in 19-whatever? Who would they be talking to? Wouldn't it be the only cell phone on Earth? As well as being a cell phone without any towers to relay the signal?

As mentioned in the thread, they could be talking across time, to someone in the future, or perhaps another time traveler in that time period. The phone may have the capability to send and receive without cell phone towers, if its a communication device from the future, and it could even do it through time possibly. It could also account why the phone looks bigger than some phones we have now, all the added electronics for this etc....

It's an old woman talking to herself holding something up to her face. It could be anything. A handkerchief or a shoe. Maybe she's a nut. Maybe she's got some dementia going on. Or, maybe she's talking into a hand held microphone. They existed in the late 1920s. She could have been talking to someone involved with the production. This is not a time traveler. Sheesh.

It's a humanoid alien from another planet, perhaps even decendents from people who lived on Mars or decendants of aliens who visited Earth in the past. They have a ship in orbit and he/she is disquised. He has a comunication device that he is hiding with his hand and is making a report on the situation. He didn't realize he was bieng filmed as he walked by. Perhaps the aliens are there because they want to observe our culture. He doesn't need any sattelites because of the ship in orbit. No other objects are in orbit, so it's a perfect time to observe us. No one would know shit.

Perhaps we are ignoring a religious explanation. It is perfectly possible that this woman was an angel sent here by God to see if humankind was ready for the second coming of Jesus, and she communicated her findings to the great beyond through the use of a device that just happens to look like a phone. Evidentially, we were not ready, and God will send someone to check again in another 2,000 years, at which point someone will think she is a time-traveller from the past due to her quaint phone-like object.

Thinking fourth dimensionally, I visualize something more like a combadge or the kind of phone that clips into your ear.


The whole point of the furor is that this vaguely resembles a cell phone. But a single cell phone is just one unit in a system, and just one is ridiculous. Therefore the discussion is ridiculous.

Technically, if the article I read a few months ago is true, we all "time travel" and see the past every second of our lives.

According to the article when we look at an object or person we are really looking at what they looked like milliseconds ago because it takes light "time" to travel from the person/object to our eyes and for our brains to process it therefore when we "see" something it really is seeing what it was like in the past.
