Time Traveller in Charlie Chaplin Feature?

If it is a hearing aid, then who is she talking to?
An electrical/electronic hearing aid in the year 1928 would be the size of a fair sized suitcase.

Because it would use vacuum tube technology, have a battery the size of the one in your car and weigh in around fifteen pounds.

No. No it would not. (Not the same brand, but the same compact idea.)

(The website's bandwidth has been exceeded likely because of the effect of the viral video.) But it's a small device roughly the size of a large first-generation iPod or something used as a hearing aid.)
Try this, then.

moar evidence time travels. i'm not sure how generations of historians missed this one.

Hmm, those McNuggets look suspicious. Everybody knows that colour wasn't invented until the 1930s.
Or maybe it was closer to 1903... ;)

This thread is amusing. Nobody thinks time travel is possible, eh? ;)

If we knew for sure that time travel was possible, what are the chances that the answers in this thread would be quite differently? ;)

I think time-travel is possible. I, however, think it's only possible to go back no further than the point the time machine was first turned on, time travelers are not likely to be hideous-looking nonagenarians and that they'd be a little more careful than to walk in front of cameras holding modern day devices.

I mean she's gets all dressed up in the clothing of the time but, D'Oh! She forgot to not talk on her time cell-phone in front of cameras! Also looking at the types of hearing-aid devices of the time I think it's more likely that she's holding one of those, or simply covering her face with a clutch than, you know, elderly time traveler that no one seemed to find odd for the last 90 years this film has existed.

Nope. There were no satellites or cell towers in 1928.
Sorry.

And they could have time traveled back, and got rid of him, or at least went back later and destroyed the masters.

Clearly she's using some sort of futuristic transphasic subspace cellphone.

Curious, and I mean you no insult, but what sort of in depth knowledge do you have regarding space time, advanced physics and chaos theory that convinces you of this? ;)

It's a theory, just like most other speculations about time travel. I like the way they play with this idea in Primer:

Very nice film, btw.

You'd think bank robbers would be intelligent enough to hide their faces in front of the surveillance cameras. Yet some times, they don't. ;)

It's the common thing I see or hear when watching science shows. The idea going that you can connect two points in time through a wormhole or other similar phenomenon but you wouldn't be able to travel back in further than the point at which the wormhole first existed. Because there's nothing connecting "now" with "then" so there's no way to get there. If we build a time machine today and turn it on we've now created a doorway to connect this point in time with points in time in the future.

I think that "can't go back further than when the time machine was activated" is just another attempt to make sense of paradoxes. I don't think the universe is so easy that the human mind can understand all of it. So paradoxes may exist.

Come on.

Didn't you know his parents own a 3D television?

 :guffaw:

I've no idea what that has to do with anything, I think you're trying to troll me.

I apologize, I wasn't trying to troll you or pick on you Trekker. I was just trying to be light hearted in how we all make opinions on ridiculous things we really know nothing about. I do it all the time. Sorry if I started something.

What I love is when the guy says, "It can't be an AM/FM radio because obviously it's the 1920s." Funny he doesn't also apply that logic to cell phones.

I have to admit I didn't bother to read the thread. I happened to see the picture in another source.

But, has anybody bothered to explain why anyone would be using the only cellphone in 19-whatever? Who would they be talking to? Wouldn't it be the only cell phone on Earth? As well as being a cell phone without any towers to relay the signal?
