Time between seasons

Jono

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
Just wondering how much time (in the actual show not in the real world) passed between the last episode a season and the first of the next season. I know that between Call to Arms and A Time to Stand O'Brien said it was 3 months, was this the same for all the seasons?

Hard to say.

As you said, Season 5 and 6 were separated by about 3 months. And from the way Kira talked about Sisko's time spent on Earth with his father, I get the feeling 6 and 7 had the same break.

DS9 seemed to work pretty linearly so I'd expect 3 months or close to it for all of the seasons.

Most of the breaks were never specificallydefined in terms of time. I'd imagine the breaks between seasons 2 and 3 and the break between 4 and 5 were pretty short. Probably just a couple of weeks, a month at the most.

The writers intended for the gaps between seasons to be roughly the same length of time in the fictional world as in the real world.

do the stardates line up with such large gaps?

Not between season 5 and 6, there is only around 100 point difference between the date in Call to Arms and the first stardate in Season 6, which was in episode two or three I think.

If 1000 stardates = 375 Earth days and the difference between each unit in the stardate is equal across the whole range then the time between the two seasons is just over a month.

Sisko mentioned he he been on Earth for a few weeks in The Search, but we don't know if they left to brief Starfleet Command as soon as Eris beamed off the station or some time after that. I would say Apocalypse Rising was just a few days after Broken Link.

If you use the stardates of some of the episodes with online converters then you can get a generalized idea.

Season 2 (the penultimate episode was in December) with the stardate for The Search translating into March. So roughly 3 months.

Season 3 (The Adversary) to Season 4 (Way of the Warrior) December 2371 to January 2372

Season 4 (Broken Link) December 2372 to Season 5 (The Ship as Apocalypse Rising had no date) January 2373

Season 5 (A Call to Arms) December 2373 to Season 6 (Rocks and Shoals since A Time to Stand has no Stardate given) February 2374

Season 6 (The Sound of Her Voice as there is no date for Tears) December to Season 7 (Shadows and Symbols since Imagine in the Sand has no date) February.
