Tim Russ says people actively pitching a new Series

He later confirmed that Sky Conway was one of the people who has pitched a series. Again, he has never said that CBS is interested. But if he says he knows people who have pitched a series then I trust him that a pitch actually occurred.

Do you?

That's nice.

And I suppose Russ would trust Conway that "a pitch actually occurred" as well. ;)

Personally, Conway would be way down the list of people I'd want working on a new Trek series.

No scratch that, he wouldn't even be on the list.

Lots of people are pitching lots of other people all the time. The questions are, of course to whom and under what circumstances? If I stretched a bit I could claim to have "pitched a Trek series" at Paramount in 1991...but it would be a silly and self-aggrandizing claim to make. Who here has seen "The Player?"

Have you ever thought about pitching an idea for a Star Trek series? I mean, you wrote for TNG more than once, as well as worked on a Star Trek fan film yourself. Surely you could pull off a successful pitch to the suits at Paramount.

And what is so bad about Sky Conway, anyway? From what I have seen of Tim Russ' 'Of Gods And Men', it looked cool to me.

I don't know why people are talking about Sky in this thread, he is a close personal friend of mine and has done some cool things relating to Trek. He has not pitched a series CBS.

My fear is if a new show comes out it will be base on the alternate reality from the latest "movie". I'd really like to stick to the Prim Universe and have it be more scientific based vs a glamorized MTV sex crazed show.

I'd rather the show be done by HBO.

And it doesn't have to be exploring. In fact it shouldn't be exploring.

Let HBO give a short and sweet setup where the Borg show up, kick butt, and then disappear. The Federation and Klingon Empire is a wreck and the Typhon Pact is out and about. It's time for nuTrek.

USS Aventine captained by Ezri Dax

Hey sounds like a certain novel series...... ;)

I really like the idea of setting the show in the Prim Universe: you could do a really neat neo-Victorian gothicky/steampunk look for the show. Though we'd probably have to lose the transporters, since the prim-and-proper neo-Victorians would think it indecent to have all those unclothed molecules hurtling through space.

And they might want to cover up those bussard collectors, or at least put some leggings on the nacelle struts.

How about a series where the trek fans are the actors.... hmm this should really interesting (bad way)

How about a series which is just good, no matter which way?

Better yet, why don't we get some more fans like James Cawley, who instead of trying to recreate whats come before try and forge something new in the name of trek? Make do with what you got, instead of striving to make something which isnt really feasible. I've got a few idea's knocking around for a Trek fan film which could be made for nothing, all I need is a Nigerian prince to share some of his rich inheritance with me and I could hire some actors and make something to keep the torch burning.

Take for instance the new Fallout Fan-film Nuka-Break. 15 minutes of pure brilliance on no budget, and it looks great and has somewhat decent acting. "Space" on TV is dead, so why not keep it alive on the internet in bits and pieces? It's better than nothing.

Thanks for the heads up on Nuka-Break!

Funny how much more professional that was compared to pretty much any Star Trek fan film.

What I am wondering is if no Star Trek fan has ever won the lottery? Just imagine what kind of fan film you could produce with the budget of a million.

That Nuka Break movie looks a thousand times better than any Star Trek or Star Wars fan film I've seen.

:rommie:

I always figured I'd sink a couple hundred grand into a fan film if I ever won the lottery.

Yeah well, are you a dedicated fan or not? ;)

I think it would be nice to have the Ensigns and enlisted personal at the right age range in a new TV series. There 18 or 22 and just fresh out of bootcamp or Starfleet Academy.

The writing on TCW is more sophisticated than I'd expected, and certainly more politically sophisticated than the OT, which didn't even attempt anything of depth or substance. TCW is taking the political angle that the PT botched badly and re-doing it better. Anakin is being written much better as well, starting off as a likable, heroic character and as the series progresses (now in S3), pushing him believably towards the dark side, as an expression of who he is as a person, not just because he's an idiot and the plotline needs him to follow Palps around by the nose.

According to you, and people like you. There's a different view on the OT that bears repeating-As well as this one.

I'd have to win $100 million before I'd waste a million on a fan film. What's the point, without the license to the name, it's not an investment and it goes nowhere. I'd be more likely to do a deal with someone to resurrect a franchise that I'd have the rights to. Now where'd I put Joss Whedon's number...?

What are you getting upset about? :rommie: There's no particular reason the OT needs to be politically sophisticated. It's a nice surprise that TCW is demonstrating some ambition in that regard, but far more important that they stick to the core of the Star Wars story - the cosmic destiny stuff - and lo and behold, they've just done a wonderful arc on that as well!

Tim Russ reached the high point of his career as Tuvok. I would take the things he says about the future of Trek with a grain of salt.

Science fiction on TV doesn't work. No one is going to give a rat's ass about Starfleet Academy 90210 or Star Trek: Tuvok or whatever. The only concept any network would buy into is a nuTrek TV show with that cast, on a new five year mission. Face it...the TNG universe will only live on in books.

I'm known to be the voice of realism regarding mainstream wants and want-nots wherever I go, but I think this is pushing it to a bit of an extreme. I don't believe a show not featuring the current movie cast would have a zero percent chance of success. I really don't believe that one bit.

30% chance, maybe. But not zero. ;)
