I figured with more and more trailers and teasers and clips (and leaked synopses, apparently...), it's high time to start a thread devoted to all things Thunderbolts* and keep the MCU thread focused on other upcoming content (including the rapidly approaching First Steps).

As much as I am a supporter of almost everything the MCU has done (looking at you, Secret Invasion), I'll admit general interest in both the films and shows have waned in the last couple of years, regardless of quality. That being said, I get the sense that there's a lot of positive buzz for this film. Or maybe that's just me because I'm super excited for the wild and crazy antics of this particular group of characters and the unlikely adventure they're about to endure.

Reiterating what I said in the MCU thread: I find myself wondering and hoping that some of these killer song choices from the trailers are included in the film. I know it's a long shot but I really do want to hear "Where is My Mind?," "Possum Kingdom," "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now," "Opr," and especially "Under Pressure" (aka the greatest song duet ever, fight me) as part of the film's soundtrack.

Lastly, like I've done in the past, once the film is out, I'll mark the thread with the Spoilers tag, edit the title, and add a poll so that people can openly discuss the thread here.

I have tickets for the Wednesday after next for my weekly movie lunch. It looks great. What I really need to do is finish up Falcon & Winter Soldier because I was so burned out on Marvel at the time that I only watched the first episode.

I was hoping I'd get to watch Brave New World on Disney+ before this comes out, but we're a week away and it doesn't look like it'll be on there by then. I checked both Wikipedia and Disney+'s page for upcoming movies and shows and neither of them said anything about when it will be going up. I'm hoping there isn't anything to important to Thunderbolts* in it.

There is a little bit of setup for Bucky's status quo in Thunderbolts*, but I wouldn't say it was anything that you absolutely had to know before going in.

Gone, alas, are the days of the full coverage of the Red Carpet World Premiere, but this 30-minute round-up does a pretty good job of accumulating all of the interviews:

Everyone from the cast is featured, including, much to my surprise and delight, Geraldine Viswanathan and Wendell Pierce! I do wish the full interviews were available for everyone because some of them were on the short side (including the aforementioned two), but nonetheless, the whole thing is a lot of fun to watch. From Florence Pugh in full agog because this is her first proper Marvel premiere (since Black Widow was during COVID) to Sebastian Stan remarking on how the film is a nice balance between the fun of Guardians of the Galaxy and the darker character themes of The Winter Soldier to David Harbour clearly just having the time of his life to Julia Louis-Dreyfus hinting about how we'll learn more about Valentina's background and what drives her.

And with this, I'm adding the poll and putting up the spoilers tag. I'll be seeing the film on Thursday night! See y'all on the flip side!

I don't get why some folks are complaining that they have to see previous movies and/or shows to understand a continuing plotline using characters they KNOW aren't brand new.

Seriously, the MCU has been going on since 2008. They really think they can get away with watching NONE of what came beforehand?

If they want to appeal to people beyond the core fanbase, they need to make these movies accessable to people who don't watch everything. From everything I've seen of this so far, it doesn't really seem like there's anything you'll need to see to follow it.

But after 17 years you'd think folks would understand you can't just go in knowing nothing

For anyone that has seen the movie by now, if they have, are the ending spoilers true?
All I need is a yes or no, you know what I am talking about.

If you tell me what spoilers you heard i can confirm or deny as i just came back.

What a great movie - this felt like a pre-Endgame movie, when Marvel knew how to built teams, write engaging characters and have a good mix of humor and action without an over reliance on special effects.

About the only drawback if you want to see it as one is that you should be familiar with most characters and their earlier appearances or else you will be throughly confused but then again this is true for Marvel for a very long time now.

Spoilers from here on ( yes, i know the thread is marked with spoilers but still):

That being said i loved the characters and how they were written - the story is, if you look at it objectively, extremely bare bones. Government villain is under investigation, she arranges to have all evidence destroyed including her black operatives who she sets up to kill each other, they fail to do so, work together to escape while discovering Bob, who turns out to be The Sentry ( Marvel's version of Superman). Bob sacrifices himself so the others can escape but it also triggers his powers, he is captured and brainwashed by government villain, loses control and turns into the evil version of himself that the team helps to defeat ( sort of).

Where this movie shines though is showing us these broken people, who have done bad things in their past and whose lives are a wreck slowly coming together and helping each other out of their respective holes to get a purpose again - that was brilliant to see, especially in the end when they all unite and defeat The Void not with brute force but forming a broken family that shares each other's pain and desperation and thus heal ( Lewis Pullman knocks it out of the par actingwise in this scene).

It's a great antihero team as opposed to The Avengers, who are immediately hailed as heroes but when the Thunderbolts go into heroics to save people and get cheers they are stunned silent as they have rarely if ever received gratitude or appreciation.

This is one huge step into the right direction for Marvel, all the core elements are there that made them great once and i hope they continue on that path to rebuild their brand.

Strictly no but if you are not familiar with several movies and shows you will scratch your head by character relations and their own personal baggages, which are sometimes only referred to by one sentence or a side remark and if you haven't seen the show and/or movie(s) you will not understand fully. However anyone watching Marvel at this point should be made aware of this, it's like starting a soap opera with episode 134.

Cool! Oh yeah this thread does have spoilers written here so here goes: do the FF4 show up?

Their starship shows up on scans in the after credits - they mention some dimensional shift and show a satellite image of the starship slowly rotating to show the FF logo on its side.

So now we know how the FF show up in the MCU universe, for everything else we need to watch the movie in a couple of months ;)

So, I think I've seen all of the MCU movies except The Marvels.
Which of the Marvel TV series would be helpful to watch before watching Thunderbolts?

Kor
