"Threshold": WHAT THE HELL?????

Threshold was bad, the whole de-evolution time line, but Distant Origin is equally bad, lizards rising up from the goo and leaving mean earth on space ships millions of years before humans have language, yeah, right
Uhm... But I liked Distant Origin. :alienblush:

Don't forget Enterprise's brilliant episode, "Extinction."

Oddly enough, I watched "Threshold" this evening. It's okay for the first twenty minutes or so, but then it takes a rapid turn for the worst.

But, it does provide me with one of the biggest [unintentional] laughs on Voyager.

"Pease. Peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!"

:guffaw:

Distant Origin is irrelevant. You are irrelevant. Resistance is futile. ;)

My major gripe with that episode is why didn't they do something to explore their common past? Supposedly all life from Earth evolved from one thing, right? So deep down the space lizards are our cousins and should have helped us out. If I see my cousing wandering around town when he lives 1000s of miles away, I will see what I can do to help him get home. Sure, he can live in my state; it's not toxic. But his home, where he's from, is on the West Coast.

1.) ENT: TATV (It's so bad that I refuse to spell it out. :scream:)
2.) VOY: The Fight
3.) VOY: Threshold
4.) DS9: Let He Who Is Without Sin...
5.) TNG: Shades of Grey
6.) TNG: The Outrageous Okona
7.) DS9: Valiant
8.) DS9: Profit and Lace
9.) TNG: Justice
Generally agree with the list. "The Omega Glory" would be on there, but it's so hard to quantify. 3 excellent acts, then 1 horrible act. That might be the most singly abominable act in all of Star Trek. I fail to understand why people hate "The Fight" so much. Ok, it does have the densest piece of technobabble in all Star Trek, but that's just 1 moment, and the boxing and vision portions, I don't see how it can be atrocious, worse than "Ferengi Love Songs", or several other episodes. I can see how it can be mediocre or fall flat, but nothing truly bad. There are several more egregious TNG eps ("Sub Rosa", "A Fistful of Data") and VOY eps (any with Barclay minus "Projections", "Q2", "Renaissance Man").

I remember "Threshold" from its original broadcast. The idea seemed cool, even though the "evolution" idea was laughable. It was in the execution. The episode was to reverse the idea of a character superevolving from going beyond the limits into some big headed brainiac. It also has echoes of Icarus, of the dangers of trying to go beyond human/technological limits. Warp 10 is flying too close to the sun. It might explain why transwarp exists or else the Borg would be cyborg salamanders assimilating the galaxy. It seemed to be modelled off some transformation horror films, notably The Fly (there's also some 1982 one I'm forgetting). It did't seem too bad in 1996, just weird.

If the Silverblood Voyager used Warp 10 to get home, would they "evolve" into transwarp salamanders or maybe puddles of silver goo with rainbow sparkles?

Overall, you have to hand it to Voyager for trying out weird ideas. The series was full of 'em.

I fail to understand why people hate "The Fight" so much.

I don't hate it. There's only two pieces of Trek that I hate, TATV and Trek XI.

It's just that The Fight is so incredibly boring. When I first watched it, it took me three attempts to get through it because I literally kept falling asleep. If an episode can't even hold my attention, then I consider it one of the worst ever.

Threshold, for all its numerous faults, at least held my attention. It's the same way any other episode on that list, with the exception of TATV.

I really hate boxing eps.

Babylon 5 which I absolutely love manages to have a boxing ep, a King Arthur ep, a Jack the Ripper ep and a Holy Grail ep. So incredibly embarrassing.

^
Yeah, those were really crappy episodes for B5. One would expect better from JMS than to write those or even approve scripts with those premise, but looking at that guy's work on Spider-Man, maybe that shouldn't come as a surprise. If they wanted a King Arthur and the Holy Grail episode, they should have gotten the guy from Monty Python to play King Arthur.

But... worse than ... or "Code of Honor"...? Seriously?
Code of Honor is awesome! It has one of the best lines of dialogue.EVER

"Then you shall have no treaty, no vaccine and No Lt. Yaaaaarrrr!!!"

Classic trek awfulness. Much like the majority of TNG's Season one, it falls into the so-bad-it's good category.

If they wanted a King Arthur and the Holy Grail episode, they should have gotten the guy from Monty Python to play King Arthur.

They kinda would've had some contracting issues trying to get him on the show, what with him being dead.

I watched it through the first time last year with no spoilers and when I realized it was a Jack the Ripper ep I just about died.

Thank goodness for B plots and continual character development despite such eps.

One word: Crusade.

Yeah what the heck was with that??!

That technomage was.. well.. I wanted to smack him every time he opened his mouth.

I still enjoyed it despite the underutilized characters, horrible music, lack of story arc.. the captain was good and I would have liked to have found out what happened next. Took some getting used to after Bab5 though as it was so lame.

No, no, he's not dead, just resting, tired and shagged after a long squawk... or pining for the fjords. (I'm imagining the dead parrot sketch)

Yeah, I wanted to punch Galen... but then I realized he was the only one on the crew with any real personality:lol:.

Captain Gideon and Captain Archer are like twin brothers from different mothers.

But Gideon has better angst because it is all about the mysterious box. That the cancellation saves us from ever finding the truth about.

Surprised that TNG Justice is on so many Bad episodes lists (as I recently watched it) its bad, but its not Shades of Grey/Meridian/Profit and Lace bad. In fact, I can think of five TNG episodes that are worst then Justice. I have yet to be blessed to see Threshold.

Justice is so bad because they had the perfect opportunity to kill off Wesley and for some inexplicable reason, passed.

awwww i LOVE Genesis! Its so much fun!

People, are we forgetting "Code of Honor" here? Surely THAT still rates as utter garbage...

I wish i COULD forget CoH.

How has "Spock's Brain" not come up yet?

It's such cheesy fun!

I really hate boxing eps.

I hate The Fight as well. Boxing eps are boring especially when we are talking about pieces of wood boxing.

Justice is so bad because they had the perfect opportunity to kill off Wesley and for some inexplicable reason, passed.

No, Justice is just bad. BAD!

And as always, one MUST read Wil W.'s review of Justice to REALLY enjoy how bad it is:

http://www.tvsquad.com/2006/12/05/star-trek-the-next-generation-justice/

"Hey guys! Let's run!" It is particularly awesome to read just how much Wil hates that episode.
