Thoughts on the tactical officer in Justice being Joe Carey from Voyager?

did some searches and didn't find anything
Same actor, which I know means nothing, but I never knew Josh Clark was in TNG. Looks like the character is an ensign so rank wise it could work. I don't remember anything of his backstory being given in Voyager that would make it not work.
For now on in my head canon Carey served on the Enterprise and that redeems the episode.

If he's an ensign in "Justice" and only a lieutenant by the time of VOY, that would be kind of sad. :/

true, although I think he's a senior lt in voyager so that'd be two promotions. Figure the switch of departments from tactical/security to engineering might have set him back, maybe he had to go back to the academy for extra classes

Data stated:
it will mean four years at the Academy, another three as ensign, ten or twelve on varied space duty in the lieutenant grades

If Carey graduated say 40000, was Ensign in Justice on 41255, got promoted to Lt jg about 43000, then full Lt about 46000, that fits fine with him being second in command of Engineering (below a Lt Cdr) by 48315.

Except that Riker goes from Ensign to Commander in just 7 years, yet Geordi only gets promoted once in those same 7 years.

Well to be fair, until the 1701-D Riker is something of a Starfleet phenom, with incidents of heroism to distinguish him in his promotions & postings

In comparison, Tom Riker is a lieutenant when they find him on Nervala, with only 4 years active duty, & no one clamoring to recognize his heroism similarly, & upwards of 2 years later, after having been posted on the Gandhi, he was still a lieutenant, probably struggling through the Pegasus scandal too. It's doubtful he'd have jumped up to CMD within 3 years of becoming active again.

Plus, it's possible Geordi might have taken a promotion to LTJG in 2364 when he got the Enterprise, & is already a LCDR by 2366, where he might have hit something of a operations division ceiling (See also Data, who never got promoted to CMD, & Worf who didn't until he changed to the command track on DS9)

So it's plausible Geordi could've gone from ensign to commander in a 7 year block... just not the same 7 year block as Riker, & maybe only if he'd returned to command.

I think sometimes it can be fun to make these connections although sometimes people go too far. On one hand I have a similar head canon with that episode for the Edo god being related to the Lysian Central Command in "Conundrum" but on the other then do I then have to make a connection between the Edo city looking like Starfleet HQ because they both filmed at Tillman Water Reclamation Plant?
But Carey being on the Enterprise is a neat idea.

Actually, Worf was promoted to LCDR in Generations and stalled at that rank until after Nemesis. His promotion to CMDR is TrekLit-only and coincided with his taking the XO post on NCC-1701-E.

The question of why Data wasn't promoted to CMDR after holding LCDR rank for at least 16 years is a seperate question...

Plus Admiral Pressman might have been buying his silence with promotions that both sides could pretend were actually earned, that is, deserved. I mean, Riker most probably actually did good, but not everybody would get noticed for that.

(How about introducing a S31 emoticon? Something with the rubbing of hands, backstabbing, black leather, high heels and/or stubble, things of that nature?)

My mistake. I always thought he got a bump when he went to the red uniform on DS9. Sucks for him lol

Geordi was promoted twice on TNG. He went to full Lt. when he got the Chief Engineer post in the beginning of season 2, and went to Lt. Cmdr. at the start of season 3.

I'm thinking he was already up for a promotion by the time he got the Chief Engineer post, and he got the next one because the job required a Lt. Cmdr., since all the previous ones except Logan were a Lt. Cmdr.

@Farscape One was referring to the 7 years post academy graduation. Riker went from Ensign to full Commander, & Geordi, who graduated the same year was still a LTJG, which I tend to think was mostly because of Riker's connections with at least one dubious captain & one influential dad, & some genuine heroics of his own

Plus, I still think there is less movement for people outside the command division. So many yellow suits seem to hit a ceiling at LCDR
