Thoughts on Discovery Starfleet Uniforms (Trailer Edition)

Zap Brannigan is already wearing those (without the pants)
Thats really scary.... and really close.

I can't unsee it now.

Can't say I hate it.

Since this show is set so close to TOS I'm wondering if they'll change the uniforms a season or two in to show a transition in Starfleet from something more warlike to something more exploratory. Re-branding on a Federation scale.

I hope they do change them. Like when Seven was first on Voayger they changed her uni.. I mean catsuit.

I have better looking track suits than these current uniforms and I wouldn't be seen dead wearing them out of the house. I think I saw a zip down the middle of them. I thought only older characters wore zipped ones. Some ugg boots would team up nicely with these, lol..

Ugg...no. I use to sell track suits, and these look 100% better and I probably would have sold more of them.

Also, fashion styles change. Who knows what 23rd century fashion will look like?

I don't know what or who is allowed to change and evolve and what isn't now? It's becoming very messed up.

Maybe there will become a marketing line for these new uniforms.. like for the general public.

Bill Theiss. ;)
Well played, sir, well played.

What's messed up? That a production team is providing their own interpretation of a look? How many different uniforms has Starfleet had?

Are you counting dress uniforms in this?
No. I counted the 2150s Enterprise uniform, the 2160s Franklin uniform, the 2230s Kelvin uniform, the 2250s Shenzhou uniform, the 2250s-60s TOS pilot uniform, the 2260s TOS uniform, the 2270s TMP uniform, the 2280s-2300s monster maroon, the 2320s-40s modified monster maroon from Yesterday's Enterprise etc., the 2360s early TNG uniform, the 2360s season three onward TNG uniform, the 2370s early DS9/Voyager uniform, the 2370s First Contact/Dominon War uniform, and the All Good Things future uniform.

Well done.

Arguably, there are two TOS pilot uniforms, because association of insignia with shirt color is different in "Where No Man Has Gone Before."

In WNMHGB, the insignia with the swirl appears on blue shirts and that with the circle and ellipse appears on copper shirts; the star appears on gold shirts as usual.

Also, while the shirt color and insignia association in "The Cage" is basically those of TOS but with desaturated colors, there's a mysterious fourth division insignia for blue shirts, the design in which looks vaguely like a cartoon speech balloon:

There is also the use of the swirl on Smith's gold shirt in WNMHGB, but that could just be a wardrobe error (as happened various times throughout TOS proper):

Why is the Enterprise Tos insignia adopted now for this show

Because it is television and the arrowhead is a Star Trek touchstone. The arrowhead was also used for Starbase 11 personnel in "Court Martial" and the Defiant crew in "The Tholian Web".

All starship personnel are supposed to wear the arrowhead, the variations we see in TOS are actually a mistake. I believe the memo about it is in the book Inside Star Trek by Herb Solow and Bob Justman.

Going through this thread I almost forgot how nitpicky Trek fans can be. If the uniforms not matching bothers you then the Klingons are going to give you a full blown hear attack.
