Those of you who see me at GB as well as here...

I only ever read and post in the audio play forum, and while I've only been reading it for a couple of months, it seems pretty civil there at least. But I have heard many horror stories about the board in general, so I'm not surprised by this situation, unfortunately.

Towards the end of my interest in Who as a big fan (I now class myself as 'casual') I only stayed in forums that dealt with missing episodes. While it was fun, the same old information kept getting thrown around and a lot of the time newbies were jumped on and the correct information shoved down their throats before they had chance to call for help.

It wasn't the best, and lead to my eventual departure from fandom in general.

Except for this forum/bbs, of course.

I've been here for a while but tend to focus more on the various Trek departments, and the BSG bit - over there I more frequented the general media fora (movies, books - which doesn't exist here- and music) as well as the F1 and general religion/politics/flames forum (which was more UK-oriented than the one here).

I wouldn't mind if Who books would be discussed more here. I'M only getting into the new line of books at the moment and I'd also like to hear recommendations for the old ones (even though they're hard to get but then I''d know what to look out for, at least).

GB is a mess. Despite the strictness of the rules, true trolls find it laughably easy to stir up trouble under the guise of "everyone's entitled to their viewpoint" whilst people like David fall afoul of anal little pricks like the admin involved in this case.

Hell, around 90% of the posts on the first page of the New Series forum are intended as wind-ups. Some rather more obviously than others, which begs the question of why the admins aren't kicking the obvious trolls about instead of wasting time going after people who make perfectly reasonable statements.

Unless they have secret proof that David is actually Angry Who Fan. In which case, good work on the blog thus far, but those CGI videos are darn creepy.

Who or what is Angry Who Fan? I've never even heard of it.

Though my blog has been pretty angry over the weekend, obviously.

He/She/It is a Who news/reviews blogger who makes a point of well-timed gratuitous swearing and humorous captions for screengrabs of the latest episodes. It's pure filth, basically, but I find it good for a giggle when I'm not in the mood to take Who too seriously.

He's also known for a couple of long-running feuds with Eddie of Outpost Skaro and other "Webmongs" as he terms them. His "A Day in the Life of Ian Levine" article was hilarous.

A quick Google search will dredge him up, though lately he's fallen a bit flat with the aforementioned CG video blogs (some online tool where animated characters speak the lines you give them in the voice of Stephen Hawking).

I've never understood the over-inflated sense of self-importance the mods and admins have over there.

Basically, OG/GB are the closest thing there will ever be to an official Who forum. I think it's gone a bit to their heads.

I knew that much. ;) I'm just utterly amazed at how they have let it go to their heads. And considering Lonemagpie's writing credits, for both the novels and audio plays, I'd have thought they'd be just a tad nicer to him. I imagine they'd unban Lonemagpie quickly enough if he ever wrote a TV episode.

I'd love it if Moffatt in an interview some day mentions that he doesn't like posting at OG because the mods and admins are pricks.

Doubt it would ever happen, but the idea makes me smile.

Well, I don't post at OG or GB but I've always thought that LoneMagpie is an extremely affable and well-informed poster on the TrekBBS. Bizarre that he, of all people, should get a bar from any forum.

I think it's bizarre that someone who wrote for Doctor Who would get banned. What's up with that?

*That* shouldn't make a difference. Having written a couple of the books (well, all right, a dozen, and a couple of audios, and some short stories...) doesn't make more or less than any other poster.

My beef with it is that it's a second punishment for an incident for which I've already done the time...

some forum admins really do let power go to there heads, honestly that expression "little hitlers" I think there might be a "Little Hitler" in all of us, I fear if I ever got a job in public service, mine would come out.

AWF is occasionally funny (I catch up now and again and have a couple good laughs when I do so)... but strangely, rarely angry. For someone ostensibly angry all the time, there's not much actual anger.

I didn't realize he was behind those. Those take "not funny" and drive it down to a whole new low where humor can't even reach.

Hehehehe...

Once upon a time, there was a magical crpg developer called Black Isle Studios, with a wicked step-parent called Interplay. They had forums. I was one of the ruling class there. Never let it go to my head. But one day, I did encourage all the mods to change their avatars to various Nazis and I changed all of our title ranks to "Evil Forum Nazi". True story. :D

McIntee stop being my ban-buddy. This is the second time it has happened.

I'm gone too man, the admins have lost it. I posted a quick "Whatever, I'm gone" on Saturday but decided to pop back to the forum as against any goddamn sense I was fucking flooded with messages demanding I return (People actually liked the shit I said on there?) and when I did I was greeted with a message saying I'd been banned for being "nasty".

Apparently any mention of me is getting deleted on there in some bizarre revisionism scheme and they're trying to make out I never left but that I was banned for bad behaviour, too bad a bunch of people actually saw the damn post before it went missing and now they're pretty screwed.

I feel like I've been stabbed in the back, Goldeneye style.

Wow. I simply don't know what to say. They really do have their inflated heads deeply up their self-important asses there.

I wouldn't have minded if they hadn't have pretended to be nice in all their public posts to me on my tenure there, the two-facedness of it all is what pissed me off and I don't think I've ever been pissed off by online stuff before.

I've been drifting from forum to forum since Saturday then I remembered this place was always fairly decent. There's a real shortage of decent Who boards out there so I guess this subforum is the best I'm gonna do.
