I'm wondering what season one apparel was made of? It looks kind of velourish but, that didn't come around til the 70's, no?

Solow's book Inside Star Trek: The Real Story, the velour uniforms shrank every time they were cleaned. The actors' union requirements specified that the costumes had to be cleaned daily.

The women's uniforms definitely shrank. There are cases in the first season where the hemline didn't cover the whole buttocks. Apparently, Roddenberry insisted that skirts be shorter than Theiss would have wanted, and then the velour shrank on top of that.
