THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till release

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

The banner would look great if it was a serious movie, but given that it isn't, it really just adds to the cheesiness of it all in my opinion.

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

"..if it were a serious movie"
Help me out here? This type banner is a common enough theater lobby advert. For any genre of film.
Sounds to me like you're grasping for a reason to complain.

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

I'm not complaining, I couldn't care less about the film. In fact before I heard about this movie, I had never even heard of the character outside of the actual Norse mythology or the little grey guy. I just think it's clearly not the type of thing you can take seriously, it's too silly, and trying to portray it as something intense and serious with posters like that just adds to the silliness. It makes it look like a parody of itself.

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

well if you don't like it, and aren't interested, why are you posting?

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

The red lettering on black-and-white, along with the serif font, is really reminiscent of old magazines like Time. I don't know what the intent is, but the design will certainly stand out from other posters on a theater wall.

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

Personally, I only discuss things I care about, which is why I don't go into eg the Stargate forum, but to each their own.

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

The banner is okay, but the poster doesn't really grab me.

I'm kinda bored of those summer movie posters that has the protagonists looking all moody on them. I wish they'd take more risks.

Hearing the trailer in French is hilarious. "Tu oses t'en prendre à moi, Thor, avec une arme aussi dérisoire!" :)

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

@Shazam...I agree with you wholeheartedly regarding posters. They're far too corporate and generic. They need to hire some artists or something, have some fun. Movies are supposed to be fun as well as entertaining last time I checked.

As for "Thor" it's self. Not sure how you could classify the film as being "silly" and dismiss it. It seems to me they're following the same formula they built "Iron Man" around and combining comedic elements with action and adventure. That seems fine to me. I'm looking forward to the film...except for Kat Dennings character...

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

^ Well, of course it will be silly from a certain point of view, but no more or less so, as far as I can tell, than a lot of other movies of its kind that I have enjoyed. If it has a sense of humor about itself, which apparently it does, then so much the better.

Beyond that, it is possible to tell a grounded story about characters with very human traits and flaws that also contains a lot of fantastical elements, so really the outlandishness of the Thor mythos (which is indeed a very wacky and rather odd mixture of fantasy, sci-fi and mythology even for comics) shouldn't stand in the way of the film telling a rousing story. Branagh strikes me as the perfect man for the job, so I'm looking forward to this as well.

As for the posters, meh... I think it's just the nature of image saturation in pop culture that leads to very simple design, with a face, a name, an intense color, maybe a phrase or two, which is all the casual audience of moviegoers is likely to retain from a poster a few months prior to the film's release (in the opinion of the designers in any event).

:pToo bad they can't make the posters look like they used to, they could have done something like this:

LoL, awesome. Do you have to be worthy to lift it? :)

Found out that the World Premiere will be in Sydney on April 17. FB Link. I'd like to see it, but most likely will see it when it starts here on the 21st.

Very cool :techman: Many of them seem to be photos from the set or from an early cut of the film, but whatever. Jaime Alexander looks great as Sif in particular. And Volstagg = win.

Here are some of my favorite shots. It seems these are scans from a publication, not screen grabs.
