THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till release

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

Holy cow! That Destroyer is dead on!

I have very high hopes for this film, now.

That Destroyer pic is AWESOME!!!

DESTROYER-THOR.jpg

Took long enough for some on set spy photos to emerge.
Now where is that Thor pic that surely exists?

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

I thinkit looks a bit Power Rangers. But I said that of Green Goblin in Spider-man & I still loved the movie.

The challenge the Thor movie poses, in terms of combining viking-style dress and weaponry with the sort of tech that exists in the same universe as Iron Man and Hulk is going to be a hard one to meet, all the same.

Will Thor speak Elizabethan English?

An awful lot of stuff from Comic movies are going to look Power Rangers, considering they predate PR by decades and possibly inspired them.

^ I think that question has been addressed...remembering reading an interview or saw something answering that. I think we'll see pics of Thor at comic con in July after the fervor on "Iron Man 2" has sizzled down a bit. That's just a guess though.

Come to think of it...the Destroyer while looking dead on from the comics...he does resemble Lord Zedd a bit :)

I'm guessing they'll go for something close to the dialogue in the LORD OF THE RINGS movie. Strong, declarative language that has a timeless feel, but without all the "dost's" and "thou's"

Or at least that's how I'd do it.

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

^And not really all that much to be honest.

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

I can't believe I'm leaving in a world where my childhood heroes are being fleshed out in live action movies! We never had it so good, as someone said once.

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

First, I'll admit, I've never been a Thor fan. I've only read a couple issues of the comic, and have more experience with the character showing up in other's comics or in The Avengers. I was never the biggest fan of Marvel's "otherworldly" stuff, with a few exceptions. So, with that said...

I'm surprised they gave him the big red cape, and the outfit looks like the plastic/rubber it probably is. A god from Asgard. I still can't see this working with Iron Man. :(

and the outfit looks like the plastic/rubber it probably is.

Well, that was said too back when the first Iron Man movie pics of the suit came out. And it ended up looking pretty great.

I trust that with the cg, the lighting, the weathering etc etc it will end up looking great.

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

Oh, I totally acknowledge that. I'm not gonna' get into a "the costume looks like shit" thing. I think everyone's learned their lesson about that since the first X-Men. I'm just surprised at this point, when they do their first publicity reveals, that they don't try and avoid that look. Unless they do it on purpose so they get more of a wow factor when it actually is revealed in motion...which is probably likely.

I'm also kinda' surprised it's so faithful.

I think that's because if you look back to when we were kids, the adaptations sucked ass. Costumes were bad, storylines and backgrounds were changed. Hell, look at the 1970's Incredible Hulk where he was called David Banner and not Bruce Banner. I could go on, but my point is that back then we all felt ripped off, because our heroes weren't fleshed out on TV or the big screen straight from the comics. Now that "we" are in charge and have access to incredible CGI rendering along with better materials, "we" are staying faithful to what we grew up with.

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

I thinkit looks a bit Power Rangers.

The Destroyer predates Power Rangers by a considerable margin and that is almost exactly what it looks like in the comics.

Fair enough. I would have to admit to not being overly familiar with the character.

Will Thor speak Elizabethan English?

He's Norse and comes from an era thousands of years before then, so hardly. :p

If you mean will he be speaking an archaic form of dialogue, all 'thee, thou' etc, apparently not (though had he been, who better to direct than Branagh?).

I like the pic of Thor. Hemsworth looks the part and the costume seems faithful without being naff.

Though, tonight, as I do every Friday night, I will watch True Blood and when Alexander Skaarsgard comes on, I will moan 'How could they NOT have cast him as Thor?'!

I agree! Based on that it seems at first glance that Marvel Studios is once again on track with a faithful translation.

I only recently got into Thor with the relaunch of the title a few years back with JMS writing. I've still got plenty to learn on the nuances of Thor and his supporting cast but thus far this is promising between this pic and the Destroyer one from yesterday.
