He popped up in the novels and video games

A lot of characters people wondered about did. Sometimes their fate surprised you.

One of my favorite ironies was Ro Laren... after surviving the destruction of the Maquis, she wound up joining the Bajoran militia. When Bajor finally joined the Federation, much of the militia was folded into Starfleet, so Ro wound up in Starfleet uniform for a third time.

Simon Tarses, the part-Romulan kid who got outed in "The Drumhead", actually benefited from what happened. After a six-month suspension from Starfleet, he returned to duty. He later attended the academy and became a doctor and an officer.

Even the corpse of Harry Kim that got sucked into space in "Deadlock" gets a new lease on life, when the "Ashes to Ashes" aliens find his body and bring it back. Of course, he has to deal with the fact that he's been replaced. Because Harry Kim Still Must Suffer...

I would like to think that Kira tried her absolute best to get Tom out of wherever he ended up going, like she said. But maybe her hands ended up being tied with bureaucratic red tape, so he's still sitting in some prison deep within an asteroid, forgotten by nearly everyone.

Poor Tom...
...unless of course, the retreating Dominion left some doors unlocked....

I think offscreen in the aftermath of saving the Detapa Council in "The Way of the Warrior" that Kira and Sisko were able to negotiate Thomas's extradition to the Federation where he was imprisoned and eventually rehabilitated. I think he would serve with some distinction during the Dominion War, retiring with the rank of Commander and end up settling down living the simple life after the War. I further think he and William would bury the hatchet and be relatively close "brothers" living as neighbors on Nepenthe.

It would have to be before Insurrection, I would think. That's why his interest in Deanna returned, you see.

Tom took the real Will back to that planet he visited in "Frame of Mind" and handed him over in exchange for the 5000 BGPL reward. Thanks to their treatments, Will has completely lost his mind at this point. He's in an asylum somewhere, wrapped in a straitjacket and drooling.

Nah. Tom has stranded Will on Nervala IV.

Maybe Tom Riker will wind up in a cryo pod somewhere, to be awakened in 3189. After all, Discovery is the only post-TNG series we haven't seen Jonathan Frakes pop up in... he's like the John Ratzenberger of Star Trek.

We need to stick Frakes into the next round of TOS remastered episodes.

Or if they do another "Tribble-ations" type episode splice. Just sneak him in between a redshirt and an Andorian.
