Thinking DS9 all of the time?

Okay I'm not a nut, probably.
I have a regular 40 hour a week job, own a house s car, dogs have a boyfriend, the usual stuff, but I think about either Deep Space Nine or The Next Generation almost all of the time.
For me I spend time thinking about the Station (DS9 ) or the Ship(TNG).
Are there others here that are the same?
(I'm hoping that there are)
Although I'm sure others might thing about other things like the space travel or technology or the characters.
Or is it just me?:ack:

I have this experience with different things. Some days it's DS9, other days it's something else I've been involved in, like Skyrim.
Looked up Skyrim, sounds cool. Sort of has Biblical (almost) implications it seems.
In addition to DS9 and TNG I also think a lot about a show from Italy called Don Matteo.
Probably a little too sedate for most people here.:)

What's interesting about Skyrim is that several of the races you can choose are actually based on different historical pagan societies (very loosely based, anyway). The Nords are based on Scandinavian Norse pagans, the Bretons are based on Celtic pagans, the Imperials are based on the Greco-Roman pagans. Redguard are vaguely Middle Eastern. Then you have various elf and orc races which are more or less lifted from Tolkien and other high fantasy sources.

DS9 I could see, but TNG? I'm sure it is just me, but I barely give it a thought aside from where it gave us background here and there to be referenced in the good Treks that followed. For example Chief O'Brien and his family, or the Ferengi which TNG totally muffed but gave DS9 great material to work with.

Some will tar the Ferengi as stand-ins for 20th Century humanity. I see them as the audience POV for most of DS9 though... ok, aside from a few of the way-too-silly Ferengi story lines. The could have omitted everything with Zek or Ishka and I'd have only the smallest twinge at leaving out background on the cultural character of Ferengi civilization. But I digress.

Actually I wouldn't discard any Trek from TOS and the movies through all of the series until Discovery. And eventually I may learn to embrace that too. Sure, there are a few episodes of all of them (and that whole 1st movie) that I avoid, but overall I'll keep it all.

Off topic again but I just reminded myself of the time Kirk embarrassed all of humanity when the Gorn Captain talks to him through that communications thingy and the cluck whips his head around looking at the sky "Who is this, the Metrons?" when it was obviously not. But if we begin enumerating failings (oh man, do I have a Picard List!) we'd need another whole forum site to hold them.

I think about all Trek a great deal but lots of tv and movies as well. I would think a great deal of day of thought revolves around:

1 Star Trek and Sci-Fi stuff
2 Sex fantasies
3 Minutia of everyday life
4 Family problems
5Some more Trek/Sci-FI
6 More sex thoughts
7 Thinking about the future
8 Food
9 Money and bills
10 Poltics(Hate this one!)

Places like TrekBBS would likely not exist without people like us. No...you are not alone. Literally whenever I am stressed, put on DS9. When I'm tired, put on DS9, when I'm happy, put on DS9. When I'm away from it...I think about it...a lot. I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm totally obsessed, and I'm actually more balanced than at times in the past, but there are definitely episodes that I've seen 25+ times and can quote almost in their entirety. So, yeah, it takes up a good chunk of my brain space. I also hold a good job, I'm a nurse in fact, and have a rather normal life. And yes, I do like the other trek shows as well, and have an intimate knowledge of them as well. Except, I haven't seen more than the pilot of Discovery.

It's nice to have a place to come with like-minded people and discuss the tiniest details of a show that ended almost 19 years ago. :-)

I go through ebbs and waves.

Star Trek comes and goes from my life, it's always there but I'll have spots of watching a ton and then massive amounts of time not watching at all, but always come back to the DS9 more than any other, especially when I'm going through a hard time or I have a tough decision to make, something like In The Pale Moonlight can be therapeutic.

I think DS9 stands so tall above the rest of the Treks because the setting allowed much bigger character arcs than any other of the Treks, allowing us to really go on a journey and see the characters change and in very smalls ways, change with them, thats really what makes for good TV, not flashy battles or Lost like over complicated intrigue (although that can be just fine) but going on a journey with characters we care about.

It sounds like an interesting series if it does this to its fans.
I even watch the background extras during the scenes and imagine what I would be doing if I was on the station.
Don't get me wrong TNG is the bomb, but that show always made me feel like wTching my idols. I know I'm not smart enough to have ended up on that ship.
I'd be on some semi rust bucket with 34 other people, 8 that I'd almost want to kill part of the time, 4 whose names I always mixed up, 3 disgusting and smelly men, 3 people that were more baluable to me than my own self, 10 people I get along with really well and 6 officers that I avoid at all times if possible.
No holodecks, sharing rooms, skinny narrow hallways, work areas like being in a tin can.

The space station has all sorts of people though. You don't even have to be in Starfleet to be there!

From everything I've heard about DS9, it seems to appeal to my core interests more of any Trek, so I am looking forward to checking it out.

But who's to say I won't just like it, and will instead become plain obsessed?

Well, if that happens...we will issue you a club member card and you can join the support group here. ;-)
