Think Nimoy Will Appear in MI4?

Frontier

Leonard came out of retirement to do Star Trek XI, and has since become a potentially recurring character on Fringe, an Abrams show. With Abrams likely doing MI4 soon, and with Nimoy having been on the 60's TV show, I wonder if he'll appear in any form - even just a cameo - in the new flick?

I didn't know they were making an MI4, let alone one helmed by Abrams. I thought that series intentionally takes on a new director/production team with each sequel.

J.J Abrams is producing Mission: Impossible IV. He likely won't direct because he's focusing all his directorial energies onto Star Trek 2, which Paramount wants by summer 2011, the same summer M:I-IV is slated for. Abrams has hired writers, whose names escape me right now, who are currently penning the script, and no, they're not Robert Orci & Alex Kurtzman. They're Abrams associates (who else?) who have worked with Abrams on Alias.

I didn't think MI3 was very good. It would be cool if Nimoy made a cameo in the fourth. Is Tom Cruise back again or still out because of the bad blood between him and Paramount? I know there were rumors after the separation happened that Paramount was eying Brad Pitt to replace him.

^ Those rumors made no sense. 1) The amount of money they were allegedly offering Pitt was completely absurd, because even when he was at the height of his popularity, he's nowhere near where Will Smith is now, or where Harrison Ford, Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks or Arnold Schwarzenegger used to be. And 2) if you were Pitt, would you want to inherit someone else's franchise or start your own?

They could say Hunt decided to leave IMF to focus on his new family. Boom in comes Pitt's character as an old friend.

If it's allowed Cruise can make a cameo because Pitt's character needs information

Last I read, J.J. & Cruise are workin' on M:I 4.

And a Nimoy cameo would be awesome. A supportin' role of some kind would be better.

Tom Cruise is still attached to star & produce M:I-IV. Apparently Cruise and Sumner Redstone buried the hachet. I also loved M:I-III and thought it was the best of the series so I'm glad to see Abrams back in some capacity.

I'm far from a big Cruise fan, but I always thought it was nice that the one continuity link between MI1, 2, and 3, was Tom Cruise and Ving Rhames' characters appearing in all three.

It would be a shame if neither returned for the next one.

Kind of like how Arnold, and Earl Boen were the only actors in T1, 2, and 3; before Salvation ruined all that...

I just think it'd be cool, and considering Nimoy and Abrams apparent friendship now... why not?

I mean, Nimoy and Shatner have been friends for 40+ years and Shatner couldn't get Nimoy to do "Boston Legal" - but Nimoy came out of retirement to do XI and then also does "Fringe" so... obviously, he quite likes Abrams, lol.

I can't see it myself. If you read I am Spock, it's clear Nimoy has nowhere the love for his role in MI that he has for Spock. It's not like his character (Paris the Great, IIRC?) is going to play some pivotal role the way Old Spock did in ST.

But then again, as has been pointed out, he did also do Fringe, despite turning down Boston Legal. Perhaps he could play a retired MI agent in a cameo.

Well, to be fair, Shatner did get Nimoy to do those cheesy Priceline commercials.

So, ya know, there was that...

:vulcan:

Nimoy turned down Boston Legal? Damn, that would have been a great episode.

Don't worry, Nimoy and Shatner will play bookend roles for the upcoming movie Boston Legal Origins starring Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine.

I don't even think I'd go see that, to be honest. Boston Legal was so interesting to me because it was a show about getting older. I don't want to see a young Denny Crane (the flashbacks in Son of the Defender were fine).

Nimoy has for all purposes ended his movie career and only takes parts that really interest him.. reprising Spock one last time was such an instance.

For him to take on a role it must be a very good one and a very interesting one and i just can't see him in an action movie like MI4 unless it is really well written and has a good part for him.. mainly as the main villain which may be a new experience for him.

However i'd not hold my breath to see him soon in a high profile role.

A cameo would be fun, but I don't care much for the series anyway, so it's not a big thing to me. I'm still amazed I made it through the third one without setting someone on fire.

Bump - looks like the original poster may be correct:

On the notion of having Nimoy reprise his '60s TV role of Paris in a fourth "Mission: Impossible" film – and possibly other original cast members as well:
Abrams: How cool would that be? I just got a call that Peter Graves is in great shape, which would be a very bizarre bend in the space-time continuum, for obvious reasons. I almost feel like you could make him serious again and bring him back. Whether it's Nimoy, who I have an incredible affinity for, or Graves or anyone, we'll see. I actually tried to get Martin Landau in "Mission 3," in a very small little moment just for fun, and was told that he had no interest in doing it. But then, when I met him, after the movie came out, it was the greatest thing. We were at this restaurant in New York for one of the TV Upfront parties, and someone introduced me to Landau. They took me over and Martin Landau came over to me, extended his hand, and [pretended to lift a false face off]. That was the greatest thing I'd ever seen!

If they got Graves back as Phelps, that might appease a lot of fans who hated what they did with his character in the first movie. And Landau too? Hmmm, could be fun!
