Things you remember from when you were younger?

Lots of traumas in childhood --- I am in a 12 step program I go to everyday at least once to deal with said childhood traumas that have lasted and affect my daily life today-- so It is great to remember the good times but always it really was almost never good--
(((Hugs))). I’m so glad things are looking up for you !

When I was a kid, there were people who were in charge of the elevators. You went in and told them which floor you wanted. Then, they manually closed the iron scissor gate and then the solid door, and up (or down) you went. They were also in charge of how many could come in and who had to wait.

At our first office we still had those lifts (though without the attendees). That was about twenty years ago and the building has since gone:(

Three channels on the telly

And going to the telly to change the channel, which was done by turning a knob that went from 2 to 13 and had something called "U" on it.

Watching Mr. Roger's Neighborhood back when Fred Rogers had black hair, Sesame Street when Snufflupagus was though to be imaginary (and Elmo didn't exist), and Looney Tunes (also known as 101 creative uses for dynamite).

And video arcades. Instead of buying a game for $60 and playing it into the ground, you paid 25 cents to play it once.

Viewmaster. I freaking LOVED that thing. I even had the big, red plastic box to "organize" all the discs.

It's hard to believe I was once *that* entertained by slides.

Did you ever find some of those 3D Disney ones kinda creepy? Like something that would fit right in on the FB page Distorted & Creepy Side Of Our Disney.

When I would visit my grandparents' farm in western Nebraska, I remember they actually had to change the direction their TV antenna was pointed (via a box with a dial, attached to the TV) depending on which channel they were watching.

Well, I'm so old, it's possible there weren't many Disney ones back then. I do remember having a set from the Disneyland park--it had pictures of the parades, scenes from Frontierland and the Haunted House, stuff like that. Nothing creepy about it.

I remember what happened when you put a disk in wrong... you got the outer edges of both pictures.

Funny how we thought toys like that, electronics like Speak and Spell, and games on the Atari 2600 were just the most awesome stuff ever.

And how we waited for those Christmas specials that we only got to watch once because there were no VCR's, to say nothing of YouTube, streaming, or carrying a dozen digital movies on your tablet.

Today with all the out of control wildfires across 3 states and all the smoke in the air right now. It is so scary! Awful. Just like it was when the mountain blew when I was a kid. There was ash falling for months after. This feels like that and it is 9/11, not the best day to recall!

I lived in Mississippi then, and it was still all over the news for months. I actually live in the area of Mt. St. Helens now.

I remember when Fox showed up. It was like, wow. Four networks. Of course now, there's a gazillion.

Station wagons. It was like a playroom on wheels. None of today's stuffing kids in carseats until they're 13 years old nonsense. You rode in back, you played with your pals, it was great.
When I was being driven to summer day camp three days a week, they'd fold down the backseat of a station wagon and pack 10 or 12 of us kids sitting cross-legged on the bare metal load floor. Seat belts? Hell, we didn't need no stinkin' seats! And a ride in the back of an open stake-bed truck was a special treat.

I wasn't that daring. But I remember climbing trees and looking down at streetlights.

Do kids even climb trees anymore?
