Things you don't do anymore or have outgrown

The pandemic has curtailed or outright stopped a lot of activities and hobbies for people. But then there are some things that people just stop doing because they've either grown bored or it, have too much other things on their plate, or just simply can't keep up with it for various reasons (job, no job, family, health issues, etc.).

For me, I used to be a really big comic book nerd. Used to go to my local comic book shop every Wednesday, rain or shine. It was almost nothing for me to plop down quite a few bucks on a stack of comics. Did that for over twenty years pretty much religiously. Then real life happened. Wound up needing a new car when my trusted old one died, so most of my disposable income went to paying the car note and insurance. That brought to an end my weekly comic book splurges for almost two years, and even though things have improved for me since then, I found myself unable to really get back into the hobby I was once passionate about. It's like during that downtime, I moved on and found better ways to spend my money.

Anyone else have long-time hobbies or activities they don't do anymore?

I play a lot less video games now. I used to play daily for hours upon hours for the majority of my 20's. As I got closer to my 30's I played in bursts more than regularity and now at 35 despite owning enough hardware it's become a infrequent hobby over the course of a 365 day year. Bored by Modern games, being less able to just sit down and do one thing for long periods, going to Football (Soccer) more for my beloved Forest and a lovely lady have taken up my time + Games aren't cheap anymore.

What I don't do AT ALL anymore and for some time is play sports with the exception of an handful of games per year of Par 3 Golf. Since I was a kid I would play football, bit of cricket and eventually tennis. This became less and less as I grew up and now ZILCH. I so miss playing football and tennis but my friends don't play and we're all getting older. I watch enough football so I would settle for playing tennis again but i'm not comfortable playing with strangers and a lack of courts + cost makes the sport not really accessible.

Man, I forgot about video games! I mean, I wasn't a really hardcore gamer, but I did use to play fairly regularly prior to getting a full-time job and getting out more. Afterward, I started playing maybe only once in a while and then eventually stopped altogether. As such, I never bothered getting anything beyond a PlayStation 2 because I just wasn't into gaming anymore.

My diabetes has ramped up, so I don't eat much of anything anymore. No bread, no pasta, no potatoes, no rice and of course, no sugar. Every meal has to be carefully planned so I don't eat any fast food and rarely eat out because it's just easier to fix my own food and I know what's in it.
I miss lunching with friends, but that isn't likely to happen anymore.

Recently diagnosed with Type 2 at 35 years of age. I've already changed my diet but I do worry in the future having to 100% cut out everything that I find enjoyable and just not enjoying food anymore. I've cut a lot out already and limited everything else to keep to a low carb and even lower sugar intake diet. Already loss 7 pounds in 1 month so off to a good start to reduce 15% of my body mass ASAP.

I would miss eating out for sure - I can live with 1 or 2 times a month but to have 0 would be a struggle.

Well, my 2 best friends have lost their minds, so that's a big part of why I don't go out much anymore.

I used to draw a lot, but, I’ve largely gotten away from it. They know at my job I can draw so they ask me every year to do my cartoons of members of an employee group we have, so, I do that and then the 90 requests from everyone else of their own and then that’s it. I have to really be in the mood to draw or I’ll just be stressed about it. I haven’t been in the mood for it in a long time, though, I did enjoy my work group drawings this year as I pick a theme every year and I picked Batman for this year, the only damn year I didn’t volunteer for the team lol wish I thought of it before.

Thank you for those, but I am underwhelmed with the last one. 18 people is unimpressive as a study. Also, one of the side effects of diabetes is that one's stomach can be slow to empty which can cause digestive upsets, so this whey protein may not be doing what those 18 people indicate. Maybe a larger study will show more conclusive results.

Watching television. Over the last eight years, with my last two jobs, one was 2pm-12:30/1:00am. The second was 4am-2-3pm. With those kinds of schedules watching television, especially prime time, was out of the question. All I did was eat/sleep. Now that I'm back to a regular 8am-5pm, I've discovered I don't care anymore about what's on. I even canceled all my streaming services since i dont like watching on my laptop. come back from work, have dinner and listen to some music.

I've mentioned in other threads that I'm working on trying to go Vegan, so far I've completely given up meat, and I'm working on giving up dairy. So far I've switched to plant based butter, sour cream, and I've tried a couple plant based cheeses. I still have been eating ice cream, and did have a few things, like a pizza a couple weeks ago and noodles in cheese sauce with dairy cheese.
The ice cream is the one thing I'm having a hard time giving up, because I love ice cream, I usually have a bowl or root beer float every day.

Now that I think about it, I don't give up hobbies a whole lot. I've only piled on more hobbies since I was like 13. I even started DMing again during lockdown.

I stopped mixing drinks at home, which I got really into during lockdown.

Climbing over fences when they're in my way. Most people stop doing it because they consider it immature and improper for adults... I stopped because I'm old and overweight, making it unsafe.
