Things you didn't like

1. No Rura Penthe scene. Not only would it explain Nero's injuries and round him out some more but.. a friend of mine was an extra for the Rura Penthe and it was cut. Hopefulyl something will be in the DVD.

2- Nero. Sure, he makes more sense after reading 'Countdown', but in the movie as is, he is just a very bitter man. He's an ex-miner that somehow has a MASSIVE ship that could take out Shinzon's monstrosity, and stews for 25 years just to torture Spock. Really?

3- Engineering is Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory, complete with people being stuck in tubes.

4- Lens flare. We get the point.

5- Insta-promotions. Good work! Here's a garbage bag full of promotions, everybody dig in. Not you Chekov, back away. Not like you did anything except for... y'know, all the helpful stuff you did.

6- Scotty's little friend. Unnecessary and unfunny, in a movie that actually did pretty good on funny stuff.

7- Spock Prime. Great seeing him, but they could have done soooo much more with him. Yeah, I know the movie is not about him, but still.

That's about it. I actually liked the destruction of Vulcan. It's daring not use the reset button, now actions can have consequences and Vulcans becoming an endangered species is an interesting gimmick to followup on.
I thought Pine's portrayal of Kirk was great, and busted a gut laughing during the entire Kobyashi Maru sequence, that was pure gold.

Probably the biggest problem I had was the fact that it went too fast. I think they should have slowed things down just a TAD, and fleshed things out a bit more.

The action scenes were a little too jerky and shaky-cam for my taste. Not as distracting as Batman Begins or the Bourne movies, but ALMOST too much...

Those are my biggest complaints. There are other little things, but its just me being a picky bastard.

At the beginning, Uhura orders a "Cardassian sunrise" ??? At this point, I didn't think that Starfleet had made first contact with the Cardassians, let alone find out what they like to drink.

Would have liked to see more of Kirk and Bones in their academy days, but understood that the rest of the film needed to be got on with.

Ending of the film was a little disappointing, when Kirk and Spock beamed to the Narada, I thought it was going to be a big fight with Nero, but in the end Nero didn't seem to do much, there should have been a big fight between Kirk/Nero or Spock/Nero, I thought this was a bit of an anti-climax, does anyone agree?

The scene with Spock aboard the Jelly-fish ship was frickin amazing tho!

Didn't think there was enough time given to the other characters, e.g. Sulu, Chekov, Bones, I know theyre secondary characters to Kirk and Spock but maybe in a sequel we should have more character development.

Oh yeah, I completely agree. I was hoping for a Star Trek 3-style fight between Kirk and Nero. Nero did, after all, kill his father, so it would have been awesome to see it.

But I guess it probably would have been edited in flash-cuts with the shaky-cam crap, so it wouldn't have been that great anyway.

Yeah. If it was a fist fight tho, I think Nero would have nailed Kirk as Romulans are much stronger than humans. Spock v Nero would have been a fair fight and Spock would be pissed off about Vulcan being destroyed.

Nero wasn't really a warrior though was he.. just a miner with a tech advantage because of time travel

And I still don't see how there can be innacuracies when it's a different timeline/universe

Another thing I didn't like was the distinct lack of Sombreros.

That my friend, is an awesome sombrero!:techman:

TIME TRAVEL. I am just so sick of it. I understand they needed something hard to change the story up a bit, but Time Travel has been played out.
Time travel is perhaps the most annoying plot device in Trek. :( It just seems so cheap.

The Bridge seemed too small and cramped.
I thought the bridge was normal-sized compared to every other Starfleet bridge we've seen to date. But it did have too many people staffing it.

To everyone bitching about the insta promotion to Captain we are talking about a guy that just saved the Earth and every other planet in the Federation by taking charge of and captaining a Starship.. kind of pointless making him anything less than Captain after that
O, I certainly agree that he deserves promotion. But not to captain. That wouls be skipping 5 ranks. But he deserves a promotion to Lietenant, IMO.

That's like making him the janitor after he's saved all creation

Jeesuz, Give him a fucking medal, like the Fed equivalent of the CMH! It's not time to make him a CAPTAIN (or Colonel, if ground forces)!

Happens at a sub atomic level in the real world and theoretically there is no impedement to it occuring in the macroscopic world at some time in the future when technology allows.. the math is solid.. it aint cheap, it's a real possibility

Hey if I save the world I better be getting that chair

Kirk was in his prime. Plus, Klingons are stronger than humans and supposedly great fighters, and older Kirk took on Captain Kruge. I think he could have held his own.

Medals are given for specific deeds. Promotions are given for a wider range of things, which Kirk hasn't had the chance yet to demonstrate.
