Things that frustrate us all

I am annoyed. Best-case scenario, I've lost a filling in a tooth, worst-case, I've damaged the tooth. Either way, a painful and probably expensive dental trip is in my future.

They can do a lot to save a tooth--most likely you just need a new filing. But, yes, it is indeed expensive. I hope you get it sorted out very quickly.

Went to another property, to do a security check. Someone fired either a BB or a pellet into a window. Went back this morning to get the window frame and took it to a glass place. Should have it done by tomorrow. Took a window from the garage, that doesn't face the street, and is close to the same size, and put it up behind the screen. Then boarded up the garage window. My poetic homonym of the day: Even if you don't sit on it, a broken pane of glass is a pain in the ass.

Junk mail is annoying. Got a post card that is a "service reminder" for heating and air conditioning tuning. And I have service credit available to spend. But I've never done business with you before. Also, the post card address says "or current resident."

They must be looking for stray voltage.

Not a major frustration, just a minor annoyance: As I get older and my hair gets finer, it continually wants to droop down over my forehead on one side. I call it the Hitler effect.
A less uncommon annoyance than you might think. It's one more reason why I keep my hair short these days (in addition to the CPAP issues).

When you work in sales, you rely upon honour among thieves, so to speak. One store manager believes in the opposite, stealing orders left right and centre, then whinging when I had a customer of their store order via me! The customer did not mention quotes to me, and for this bullying asshole to act the way he is... it's infuriating!

I want to gather evidence among other local stores as to the antics of this guy. My manager is against it, but appeasing bullies rarely makes them change.

Tried to get a medallion stamp at the Credit Union (the largest in California) I have been using since 1989. I got a call from the main office, and they said the medallion stamp I wanted was for "administrative purposes" and they don't give a medallion stamp for those. I needed the stamp to verify that the savings bonds owner, is the same person that has the account with them. That way I could have Treasury Direct cash them and send the proceeds to my account at the Credit Union. That Credit Union no longer cashes paper bonds, which require a medallion stamp as well, and the Credit Union won't stamp them anymore either. I found another local Credit Union (affiliated with a USAF base in California) that will cash the bonds, but only if I have an account there. I have opened an additional savings and checking account with the new Credit Union, and will switch my direct deposit of my Social Security retirement check to them as well. Because of the problem my current Credit Union has with US Treasury money, I will let them have less of it, and then I will let the new additional one have more of it. The new Credit Union has two branches in my county, but none in the counties surrounding it. There was once a SAC USAF base in the county, that closed in the 1990s, and its Credit Union joined merged with the USAF base that is still in use in California.

The problem you're having is caused by your proximity to Ohio. I live in "The illusion of safety" area.

I think I'm not going back to school, my mental health can't handle it anymore. I'm either determined and hopeful and looking forward to go back to school so I find a different job and finally quit my awful job, OR I'm panicking, stressed and filled with anxiety and fear.

And it's all my governments fault! They are the ones who want to change to rules for when to retire and make budget cuts. There is no way I will get hired and have worked the required amount of years to file for retirement, I'm screwed! I'm going to look for a way to live on disability benefits because I'm sick of it!

And when I mention this to my therapist he's either saying "but you're so young, you still have so much possibilities" OR "so much can change by the time you're actually retired, don't worry!" by the time I'm 67, retirement will be at 70 - 75 years. Stop being a condescending, patronising, ignorant, arrogant, entitled, presumptuous asshole! The only reason you say this is because you retire in 5 years and this doesn't affect you anymore, go touch some grass asshole!

I can't tell you what to do, I know only what you have told us here and, in any case, it's your decision. What I can do is tell you about my life and my opinions.

I am just about to "retire" having been in receipt of diability benefits for 33 years. I do not recommend it. It's boring, isolating and always being short of money isn't any fun either. The retirement age has changed multiple times in my lifetime, and there has been at least 2 major changes in the rules plus many small ones. At no point could I predict what has been the actual result.

If you have plenty of interests, an active social life and lots of friends, not having to go to work can be a benefit. The problem is when you don't have those things or, over time, your access to a social life and your number of friends diminsh. It's common for friendship groups to turn over - people move on for various reasons - but if you have limited contacts with other people it becomes difficult to make new friends. Work gives you an interest, gives contact with other people, gives a routine and a shape to your life (and that's quite important for human beings), and gives you something to do. With luck it will give you more money too.

When it comes to studying, it can be a mistake to study something solely to get a job. It's important to study something in which you are interested. That way, the studying itself becomes rewarding. If it helps you get a job then that's a bonus. In your case, studying would have the added benefit of getting you away from a job you don't like.

If you choose to go down the road of disability benefits, you are cutting off any options. Once you start claiming benefits, your chances of ever getting a job again are minimal. You will find it very difficult to change your mind some time in the future.

In my opinion (which may be worthless), I think your best option is to study, and to study a subject you enjoy without trying to predict the future beyond that.

Best wishes

okay, serious question: do people not study in high school to find a job?

I would see people studying in high school to give themselves options in the future. That includes the option of going on to further studies as well more potential job choices than they would have without any qualifications. They are not studying for one specific job.

Also in high school, people are studying essential life skills. You need maths and language every day. A basic knowledge of human biology helps people look after their health. People who lack knowledge are very vulnerable to exploitation.

High school students go to school in order to have a basic education. Most people couldn't really function as adult without a high school education. It's also a time to find out what you're good at, or what you're interested in. That's when you decide WHAT you want to study. In college/university, you take that information and focus on a topic/area you want to major in, and with any luck, it will be something that will provide you with a decent living.

In California in the 1960s you received tests in Elementary and Junior High you took placement tests to determine what classes you would take in High School. My High School had a track system. "A track" took classes for college prep (heavy on science and mathematics), "B track" took classes for business/vocational fields (shop classes or typing) and "C track" for general education. I was in A track, but took shop classes as well.

I took one year of college, then enlisted in the US Navy (so I could go to college after my enlistment, and have it paid for by the G.I. Bill). In the USN, I was trained as an Electrician's Mate. I did go to college after my enlistment, and got my first job in aerospace, mostly because of my DD214 that I attached to my résumé. I got the interview because it was held on CSU Fresno college campus (where I was a senior), but I was one of 5 that got the jobs offered by Hughes Aircraft Company - Space and Communications Group, because of my military training (the interviewer was a retired submarine captain). He skipped the formality of asking the standard interview questions, and asked when I could come down and tour their facilities.
