My city is going lay 400 people off due budget cuts, seriously questioning my decision to study again. I'm not studying for something that is highly sought, so I'm worried I won't find a job with these budget cuts.
Which would make me feel guilty if I finish my studies and not find a job, because I would consider it a waste of time. But I don't know what else I can study, I'm at lost what to do and I can't contact the teacher due to the school being closed now.

Currently in a looong exchange with my broadband company who are unable to decide whether or not they sent me a text message.
At the minute, they have decided they did send the message and want my permission to remove my mobile number from their records. Apart from the minor fact they've never been given my mobile number, when I looked at my account, there's no mobile number recorded...so from where are they intending to remove it?
All along, there's been a strong feeling that no-one's actually checked anything and are just sending me standardised responses

I agree but...the message has no clickable links and the information of where to go is the genuine company site, the telephone number's right as is the email address so if it's a scam then it's remarkably ineffective
In addition, the message is one that the company should have sent me - but via email - and the company are, currently, saying that.

My parents are constantly asking their kids if something they receive is a scam. It always is, and it's better than them falling for it, but some of them are so obvious and they just don't know what to look for. When it comes to "technology" they seem resigned to just never knowing than wanting to learn.
I get phone calls, saying they are on a "recorded line, calling on behalf of company x" I stop them right there and tell them I don't talk to someone who calls me saying they are calling for someone. I tell them I will call the company they say they are calling on behalf of, and hang up. When I call the company on the actual number I have, select the robot's phone menu to discuss correspondence received from the company, I then get an actual agent at company x, and they have no record of requiring any information from me to them.
Someone I know had an email about a delivery from shoes and yet she called asked the store to cancel the order. It's sad that people don't listen to you when you know it's a scam
Last time we went, last year, there was a young couple next to us constantly chatting, on phones as you said, took forever to eat their popcorn, and most disgusting she had her feet hanging over the seat in front of her, no one was sat there but it still shows a lack of respect.
We only go now maybe once a year, and our cinema is really good value too. i have a projector set up at home with 100 inch screen, good soundbar and for big screen films it's great. Just have to wait until the film becomes available at home. Far more enjoyable.
Going back maybe 15 years now my parents, would have been early 70s then, were just getting into online shopping. My dad wanted a new sat nav and had been searching in vain looking for a bargain. Anyway we went round to see them one day and they both look like someone has died, we've got something to tell you theu say. They proceed to tell me they have been the victims of an internet scam, I'm thinking oh my god how much money have they lost. So he tells me he found a sat nav online and it was cheaper than buying it from halfords (uk motor accessories store), but to buy it he had to go down to the post office and arrange a transfer to the company, who were in Nigeria.
Anyway it was about 65 pounds he sent. Obviously it never turned up. I had a really good laugh and told them served them right for being so tight (the price in halfords was about 5 pounds more).
Told them of 65 is what it takes to learn your lesson when shopping online then you've got away lightly. And it worked, they are really careful even today abd check with me if not sure
I'm a buy-offline, pay-cash kind of person and I don't give people my email address or mobile number unless they are a personal friend or it's absolutely essential (and even then I have a "business" email address and businesses get my landline number which is not plugged in). The big advantage of this is that I get almost no spam emails or telephone calls. I'm never going to fall for "push notification" scams and nobody's going to be able to empty my bank account because I don't bank online.
Companies constantly assure us that doing things online is safe and secure - yet there are frequent stories about major data breaches and we just don't hear about the small-scale ones. Companies assure us that our privacy matters - yet they collect masses of information without telling us that they share with "partners" (ie people who want to sell stuff), and do things like tracking people's movements which if you think about it, is pretty unpleasant (people wouldn't like being followed around all day by a person). Because work is outsourced, often through multiple layers, a company really has no idea at all who has access to what data. Frequently, things aren't as quick and easy as firms claim. On top of that, getting customers to do the work themselves allows companies to weasel out when there is a problem by saying it's the customer's fault.

Now they are saying that they can't find a record of the text to me - but they definitely sent it.
They cannot tell me when the mobile number was added to my account because they can only see back 15 months. (Remember that's the mobile number that isn't there on the account details)
The mobile number and the "evening telephone number" have been removed from my account. I have had a "change of details" email which tells me the evening telephone number has been removed but which says nothing about a mobile number!

Waking up to a dead car battery and waiting for roadside assistance to come and give me a jump.

I've got one of those small portable battery chargers. Great thing to have in your vehicle because you don't have to rely on another to get a jump. It was around $60 or $70 years ago, but they've gone down in price since. (Looks like around $40-$50 now, some even cheaper.)
Just have to plug it in every 3-5 months (depending on how often it's been used) for about 6 hours, and you're good to go with a jumper at any time. I think every vehicle should have one of those... you never know when you need it and could have bad cell phone signal.
(I sometimes refer to mine as "Jumpin' Jack Flash" because it gives me a jump... in a flash.

My previous truck (2001 Silverado) did not have that, but my current truck (2024 Silverado) does have that auto-shutoff thing. (I absolutely hate that and turn that off every time I start driving.) I haven't had to use my portable charger on my current truck yet, though. It was quite helpful with my old one.
(Personally, I would have her still... but after just under 23 years and over 320,000 miles, she couldn't go any further. At least, not without spending so much to fix her that it was more feasible and cost effective to just get a new truck.)
